1973 Triumph TR6

The car was stripped to the last nut and bolt by the previous owner, who had the chassis stripped and powder coated, and the body tub taken as far as primer and seam sealer before sadly passing away, before the current owner buying the unfinished project.

Over the following three years every part of the car was either refurbished or replaced by the best specialists the owner could find. Fuel and ignition systems were upgraded. 

In the boot there is a knock off wheel spinner tool, and the car comes with a full tonneau cover, workshop manuals, Triumph wing protector and a car cover.

The Triumph’s exterior is extremely good with fit and finish as good as, or better, than factory. The owner tells us TR6 panels are tricky to align, but the bodyshop fitter was Triumph trained so knew the tricks to get it spot on with nice even lines.

The body tub had been prepared to red oxide by the previous owner and needed no work besides paint, but many of the exterior panels were replaced.

New wings, doors and bonnet were fitted at Spectrum Paint where it was finished in Volvo Deep Blue, and finished with new pin striping.

Once home, a new mohair hood was installed and it was treated to a new stainless steel front bumper, while the rear has been re-chromed. The new wire wheels were treated to a new set of classic Blockley tyres and tubes last year. 

Details complete the job, so the chrome mirrors, door handles and filler are new or re-plated, as are the lights, and the large TR6 badge on the grille is a new, custom made item.

Having barely driven run-in mileage, there are almost no chips or marks to note around the car we could see.

The interior looks stunning having also been completely renewed. 

It has new black carpets, matching black door cards and side panels, and the original seat frames have been retrimmed in black vinyl.

That all looks superb, but the star of the cabin is the dashboard. It is the original wooden backing panel, but has been custom veneered in American Redwood Varona burr by ex-Rolls-Royce craftsmen, with the grain mirrored left to right and even the inside of the glovebox lid veneered. They have also made matching door top caps in the same wood to complete the look.

In the boot there are new carpet and side trim.

As with the body, every mechanical part of the car has been restored or replaced. 

Starting with the biggest items, the engine, gearbox with overdrive and differential were overhauled by Triumph specialist RobSport.

It has a completely new fuel system with uprated Bosch type pump beneath the boot, rebuilt throttle bodies and new injectors all new fuel lines and a professionally rebuilt and tested fuel metering unit.

It has a Distributor Doctor dizzy with Petronix electronic ignition for reliability.

There are new brake calipers and brake and clutch master cylinders, with all new hydraulic lines, a new steering rack and an uprated radiator, and a new wiring loom run-in through the car.
The engine bay is immaculate. 

Following this incredibly thorough restoration, the car comes with a thick stack of receipts, notes and photos documenting the journey. It comes with a number of spares including original injectors and fuel system parts and original steel wheels.

This is one of the best TR6s we’ve seen thanks to the no expense spared approach and the owners precision engineering background dictating a meticulous rebuild.

It looks immaculate inside and out, the dark blue paint suits it perfectly as does the Varona burr dashboard and mechanically it is perhaps better than new with the upgraded fuel, ignition and cooling systems.
