Background

The Rolls Royce Silver Spur is a long wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit produced from 1980 to 2000. Over its 20-year production run the Silver Spur received multiple refreshes and was the first Rolls Royce car to feature a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy.

Overview

This Silver Spur is a 1990 model making it a Silver Spur II. The Silver Spur II was introduced at the 1989 Frankfurt Motor Show. The biggest change was the introduction of “Automatic Ride Control,” a fully automatic system capable of adjusting the dampers at all four wheels in real time. ABS and fuel injection became standard equipment for all models and markets. The powerplant was unchanged, a 6.75L V8 coupled with a 3-speed General Motors Turbo Hydramatic 400 Automatic transmission.

Exterior

The exterior to this Silver Spur was finished with beautiful metallic blue paint. Application around the entire car appears smooth for the most part and shows no major damage. There are a small handful of chips to be found in the panel gaps surrounding the door. The Rolls-Royce wheels are particularly clean, shine like mirrors, and show no major curb rash. Glass around the car is clean and free of chips and cracks, and the rear windows appear to be tinted as well. The blue vinyl roof is in good condition, and only shows minor fading up top at best. Down low, the black plastic bumpers have aged particularly well and still look very healthy, furthermore, the chrome trim attached to the bumpers is both clean and straight. Overall, this Silver Spur has a clean exterior with very little damage to be observed.

Interior

The blue leather interior inside this Silver Spur is in nice condition. Up top, gray/blue headliner shows no stains, and hangs tightly in place just like the sunshades. The leather seats really stand out from the rest of the interior thanks beautifully done white piping. The driver’s seat shows some creasing and discoloration that could likely be removed after a solid detailing. The passenger seat up front is in much nicer condition than the driver and shows no holes or tears. In the rear compartment, the two captain’s seats show some creasing, and that creasing is beginning to damage the leather. Accordingly, the rear bench also has very little damage to show. Blue carpets were thrown in to cover the stock floormats and both appear to be in quite nice condition, although the added blue carpets don’t always fit as intended. Wooden inlays throughout the car and plentiful and clean. Hairline scratches and chips pop up occasionally inside, but for the most part all of the wood in the car looks healthy and free of major damage. All of the gauges and vents in the dash are clean and easily readable, and the black leather-wrapped steering wheel shows decent wear but doesn’t appear to be falling apart. Blue curtains are attached to each of the windows in the rear compartment and they have survived nicely. The curtains in these Silver Spurs are often damaged in cars that have not been as carefully maintained as this example and speak volumes about how well the car has been stored.

Mechanical

Lifting the massive blue hood reveals an equally massive engine bay loaded to the brim with parts. The V8 and all of its subsequent components are present, appear to be clean, and nothing seems to be showing any major damage.

History

Based on the documents available to us, we believe the seller acquired this vehicle sometime around December of 2015.

Summary

The Silver Spur available here is in good condition. Exterior imperfections are incredibly minor, and the interior is in unbelievably nice shape as well. Thanks to fantastic suspension, supremely comfortable seats, and a gorgeous dash, this is a wonderful opportunity to purchase a fantastic Rolls that is both classically styled and new enough to have all of the modern creature comforts you could want at an excellent price. The Market by Bonhams is excited to offer this beautiful 1990 Silver Spur Limousine for online auction with no reserve and an estimate between $15,000 and $20,000.
