Background

The Silver Spur was a longer-wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit, the first model in Rolls-Royce’s SZ series, and was in production from 1981 to 1999.

Along with the other models in the SZ series, the Silver Spur was one of the last Crewe-built Rolls-Royces with truly British DNA running through it. The next generations of the ‘The World’s Best Car’ would be built by BMW in a new facility at Goodwood, England.

It featured Rolls-Royce’s familiar four-door monocoque bodyshell, a smooth and powerful 6750cc V8 engine allied to four-speed automatic transmission, all-round independent suspension, adaptive ride control, power steering and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS.

It was the first Rolls-Royce to feature a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy mascot.

The Mark IV Silver Spur was manufactured between 1996 and 2000.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, [email protected].

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this 1997 LHD auto Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Division by Park Ward comes with no history or service records.

VIN: SCAZN20CXVCX60223.

This 1997 auto LHD Mulliner Park Ward-bodied Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Turbo has 76,737 kms on its odometer.

It was bought for the vendor’s collection of static display cars in 2012.

Before that it had been living in Japan and may well have been imported new to the country – which would certainly explain its excellent condition, which is entirely consistent with the quality we’ve come to expect from ex-Japan luxury cars.

The car is dark blue with grey leather upholstery (with blue piping), grey carpets and blue sheepskin over-rugs.

The dashboard illuminates but the car doesn’t start or run at present, so our appraisal of it is entirely based on its cosmetic appearance.

Exterior

The bodywork is very good and is free of any dinks, dents, creases or folds of any significance.

The glossy blue paintwork is equally impressive and is, we believe, a good indicator of the care and attention that would seem to have been lavished upon this exceptional car throughout its life.

The wheels, chrome work, trim, badging, and exterior fixtures and fittings are all in very fine order.

The only evident exceptions to all this aesthetic good news are a few scuffs and scratches on the passenger side doors.

Interior

The interior is every bit as good, with much of it covered in protective plastic film and sheeting.

The grey leather seats are excellent, both front and back, and only the driver’s seat and armrest have even the slightest traces of creasing to show for their years of service.

The seats are comfortable and supportive, as you would expect.

The door cards are also in good order, as is the headlining.

The wood veneers are also very good overall, although there are a couple of cracks to the lacquer on the centre console.

The carpets would be grateful for being shown some cleaning products, particularly in the front footwells.

The blue sheepskin over-rugs are safe and sound in their plastic bags.

The dashboard and instruments look fine, although we can’t make any claims about the full functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t started or driven the car.

The boot is more or less immaculate and contains three Rolls-Royce umbrellas.

Mechanical

The clean, dry engine and engine bay look fine and the undersides of the car appear to have plenty of structural integrity.

History

This car comes with no history and no service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification unless otherwise stated.

Summary

This splendid Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Turbo seems to us to be in pretty much time-warp condition, provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and as good as the rest of it.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €6,000 - €12,000.
