Background

The Silver Spur was a longer-wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit, the first model in Rolls-Royce’s SZ series, and was in production from 1981 to 1999.

Along with the other models in the SZ series, the Silver Spur was one of the last Crewe-built Rolls-Royces with truly British DNA running through it. The next generations of the ‘The World’s Best Car’ would be built by BMW in a new facility at Goodwood, England.

It featured Rolls-Royce’s familiar four-door monocoque bodyshell, a smooth and powerful 6750cc V8 engine allied to four-speed automatic transmission, all-round independent suspension, adaptive ride control, power steering and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS.

It was the first Rolls-Royce to feature a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy mascot.

The Rolls-Royce Silver Spur III Touring Limousine was manufactured between 1994 and 1995.

Only 36 examples of this stretched, Mulliner Park Ward coach-built limousine were ever constructed, with just 22 in LHD configuration.

This, then, is a particularly rare Rolls-Royce.

Chassis No: VIN: SCAZW02C9SCX80134.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this 1995 LHD auto Rolls-Royce Silver Spur III Touring Limousine comes with no history or service records.

We believe this car spent some, most or all (we really can’t be more specific) of its life in Japan before it was bought for the vendor’s collection in 2012.

The car’s odometer is showing just 34,147 kms.

The car is blue with red leather upholstery and blue carpets and rugs. The front and rear cabins are partitioned with a glass divider screen.

With the proviso that we haven’t tried to start or drive this vehicle and can therefore only comment on its cosmetic condition, we think it is in very decent overall condition apart from some relatively minor issues with the bodywork and interior.

Exterior

The Mulliner Park Ward bodywork seems to be in very fair condition in general, although there are some minor issues to consider.

The panels are straight, even and free of any significant dinks, bumps or creases aside from a shallow dent to the rear wing on the driver’s side.

The panel gaps and shut lines seem entirely consistent and even.

The blue paintwork is broadly good in the main, as are the wheels, the chrome work and the exterior trim, fixtures and fittings.

There is some bubbling and rippled paint below the rear screen.

There are one or two scuffs and scratches on the rear bumper and on the doors on the driver’s side. There’s also some bubbling on the ‘D’ pillar on the same side.

There are a few stone chips in the usual places: the front valance, wheel arches and leading edges of the bonnet and doors.

Interior

The condition of the interior is really rather good and the car has successfully retained much of its original ambience of luxury, quality and unrivalled opulence.

Indeed, the Asprey clock, the fridge compartment and the ankle-deep lambswool rugs leave you in no doubt that this was, and remains, a special place to spend some quality time.

The red leather upholstery is in very decent order, both front and back, and the light creasing in evidence on the driver’s seat is far more a reflection of the car’s low kilometres than its age.

The door cards, though in need of a clean, are good, as are the carpets and mats, which are just a little dusty.

The wood veneers on the dashboard, door cappings, rear picnic tables and entertainment console (TV, radio, CD/DVD player) are glossy and rich in general, but the lacquer is cracked in several places.

All the Rolls-Royce toggles, stops, levers, switches and buttons appear to be OK, although we can’t make any claims about their full functionality as we haven’t tried to start or drive the vehicle.

Mechanical

The undersides look to have a decent amount of structural integrity, as might be expected of a car that’s spent time in Japan.

Everything in the engine bay looks to be in its right and proper place.

History

This car doesn’t come with any history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

None of the paperwork shown in the gallery in any way constitutes any kind of licensing or registration certification.

The documents in the photo gallery are photocopies

Summary

We think this Rolls-Royce Silver Spur III Touring Limousine is in strong overall condition, bar a few largely cosmetic issues.

This very grand - and very rare - model could yet reward its next owner with years of classy motoring pleasure and would be an ideal car for service at weddings and other events.

Provided, of course, that the engine and mechanicals prove to be as impressive as the rest of the car.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €20,000 - €30,000.
