Background

PLEASE NOTE THAT AN AUCTION PREMIUM WILL BE CHARGED, ON TOP OF THE HAMMER PRICE, OF 5% (+VAT IN UK AND EUROPE). FROM 16TH JAN'23 THIS APPLIES TO ALL AUCTIONS ON THE MARKET, AND FEES ARE MIN €720 / MAX €7,200.

Whenever a new Rolls-Royce appears, it is the manner in which tradition is balanced against innovation that most intrigues the public, and the Silver Seraph's introduction in 1998 was no exception.

There was certainly no lack of new components in the new car, with almost nothing carried over from its Silver Spur predecessor.

The most significant change was the adoption of BMW engines, the Seraph's power unit being the 5.3-litre, 60-degree V12 of the range-topping 750i.

The Silver Seraph became the first V12 Rolls-Royce since the pre-war Phantom III.

The ZF five-speed automatic gearbox was likewise sourced from the 750i.

Changes to the body seemed less radical but were no less interesting. The styling represented a conscious attempt to recall the looks of the Silver Cloud, with a level of build quality that was higher than ever.

Just 1,676 hand-assembled cars were made during the Seraph’s short four-year production run from 1998 to 2002.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, [email protected].

VIN: SCALA61E4XCX02555.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this 1999 LHD auto Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph comes with no history or service records beyond whatever is shown in the documents section.

It has 44,883 kms on its odometer.

We believe it was bought for the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in 2016.

The car turns over, starts and runs, but we haven’t driven it more than a few metres so our appraisal of it is entirely based on its cosmetic appearance.

Exterior

In general, the car’s overall condition is mostly pretty good but there are one or two issues to consider, inside and out.

The bodywork is largely devoid of any dents or creases worth mentioning and the cream paintwork, too, is broadly decent.

The chromework and wheels are all decent, as is the badging, trim and most exterior fixtures and fittings.

There is a lot of bubbling on the sunroof and the trim around it is warped.

The black trim over the chrome window surrounds is flaking off in places.

The glass in the driver’s wing mirror is cracked and there’s a chip in the windscreen.

Interior

It’s a similar story on the inside: good in parts, less so in others.

The cream leather upholstery is mostly good, although the rear seats have a few scuffs and marks on them.

The leather trim above the rear centre armrest and on the parcel shelf is split and lifting.

There are some scuffs and nicks at the rear of the front passenger seat.

The carpets, mats and door cards are all good, although the rear passenger-side door card has a few scuffs and marks in evidence.

The headlining beneath the sunroof is jammed into the roof’s mechanism.

There are one or two cracks and ripples to the lacquer on the centre console, dash and door cappings.

The leather trim around the inside of the front passenger window has hardened, warped and lifted.

The boot is in decent condition.

We can’t make any claims about the full functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t driven the car more than a few metres.

Mechanical

The clean, dry engine and engine bay look fine and the undersides of the car appear to have plenty of structural integrity.

History

This car comes with no history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification unless otherwise stated.

Summary

Despite needing a little attention here and there, this fine, low-kilometres Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph seems to us to be in pretty reasonable overall condition - provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and as good as the rest of it.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €30,000 - €40,000.
