Background

The world was watching very closely when the Rolls-Royce Phantom VII was announced in 2003.

This was the first Rolls from BMW and, it turned out, would be the model that effectively rescued the marque and would give its German rival, Maybach, a very serious competitor at the top end of the market.

The body is mostly aluminium and the extrusions used to construct the aluminium spaceframe were produced by some hydroelectric magic in Norway, expertly beaten into shape somewhere in Denmark, hand-welded in Germany and turned into a car at Goodwood, England.

The Series 2 Phantom VII (2013 onwards) was an extraordinary vehicle in almost every imaginable way and came with a price to match.

Ant this one is even more extraordinary than most.

The car’s odometer is showing just 492 kms.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with no history or service records.

We understand that the car was bought by the vendor in 2017 and entered his collection of static display vehicles in 2018.

With the proviso that we haven’t tried to drive this vehicle more than a few metres and can therefore only comment on its cosmetic condition, we think this 2014 Rolls-Royce Phantom SWB (Short Wheel Base) is effectively a brand-new car with little more than delivery kilometres to show for its 8 years of life.

Now then.

Are you a softly-spoken, introverted kind of person, someone who likes to blend anonymously into the crowd without attracting undue attention to yourself?

If so, then this is almost certainly not the car for you.

This striking vehicle makes a statement that’s really very hard to ignore.

Originally black, the car’s two-tone orange-over-gold paint work can probably be seen from space and is the kind of thing you might imagine appealing to John Lennon or Jimmy Hendrix during one of their more psychedelic phases.

You are very, very unlikely ever to find yourself parked next to an identical one at the supermarket.

Not that you’re very likely to go to the supermarket in a Rolls-Royce Phantom anyway.

Exterior

The bodywork is more or less pristine.

The panels are straight and even, the bodywork is free of any significant flaws, and the panel gaps and shut lines seem consistent and even.

The orange-over-gold paint finish has plenty of shine and lustre.

The chrome and exterior trim are in excellent condition, as are the lights, lenses, badging and all exterior fixtures and fittings.

The wheels are in similarly excellent condition.

The bottom of the boot lid has one or two scratches and some residual glue where the dealership badge used to be.

Interior

The interior is in the same virtually brand-new condition as the exterior.

The burr walnut veneers on the dashboard, door cappings and inserts are rich and glossy.

The black carpets are thick, deep and seemingly untroubled by either time or use.

The metres of soft tan leather are sumptuous, inviting and devoid of any creases or other flaws that we can see. The seats, front and back, appear to be in first class condition.

Like everything else in here, the door cards, curtains and headlining are all pretty much as good as new.

The umbrellas that should be inside the doors are still present.

All the Rolls-Royce (and BMW) toggles, stops, levers, switches and buttons are as shiny and classy as the day the engineers at Goodwood installed them (we can’t make any claims about their full functionality as we haven’t tried to drive the vehicle more than a very short distance).

Mechanical

Everything in the engine bay is in its right and proper place and entirely as you’d expect to find in a car that’s barely seen any use whatsoever.

The undersides look pretty much untouched by road grime, weather or use.

History

This car doesn’t come with any history or service records beyond what is shown in the photography section.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

None of the paperwork shown in the gallery in any way constitutes any kind of licensing or registration certification.

Summary

The Phantom VII was a very important car for Rolls-Royce. New owners BMW stopped at nothing to create an automotive experience that had the dynamic abilities and engineering integrity to match its unrestrained, bespoke opulence.

It’s hard to imagine any vehicle that conveys a greater sense of occasion than a Phantom.

And it’s harder still to imagine any Phantom that might turn more heads than this particular one.

Provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are as good as the rest of the car, we think this time-warp condition example is as close as you can get to a brand-new Phantom – but without the brand-new Phantom price.

We’re confident to offer this virtually unused car for auction with an estimate of €60,000 - €100,000.

Viewing is always encouraged, and this particular car is located in a bonded warehouse in Amsterdam, to arrange an appointment please use the Contact Seller button at the top of the listing.
