Background

Introduced in 2009, the Rolls-Royce Ghost was intended to do battle with cars such as the Bentley Flying Spur and V12 variants from Mercedes Benz. As such, it was pitched at a level below the Phantom (although there’s pretty much no level above the Phantom).

However….

"With the Ghost, Rolls-Royce has followed Bentley's lead and not been shy about making its 'entry-level' car substantially more powerful and therefore quicker than the flagship model above it." – Autocar.

Its name evoking that of the Edwardian-era Silver Ghost, the Rolls-Royce Ghost was conceived as a smaller and more affordable alternative to the range-topping Phantom, whose practical and aesthetically pleasing rear-hinged back doors it inherited.

The Ghost was powered by a 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, which delivered its 562bhp via a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox and, despite the car’s not inconsiderable weight, could propel it to 100km/h in a frankly extraordinary 4.8 seconds.

The Ghost Series II arrived in 2014 with a number of upgrades and changes including re-sculpted headlights, enlarged front air intakes (better cooling for the brakes), revised bumpers, redesigned front seats, and new struts, dampers, steering gear and hydraulic axle bearings.

This 2017 Rolls-Royce Ghost is a LHD, auto, extended wheelbase (EWB) version which was built to the ‘Gulf’ specification.

It was originally ‘Diamond Black’ in colour and has since been resprayed to a metallic, two-tone purple over pink/lilac finish.

The interior is as originally specified and is a bespoke configuration featuring ‘Consort Red’ carpets and leather trim and ‘Tan’ full-grain leather upholstery.

Chassis No: SCA664L02HUX69977.

The car’s odometer is showing just 1,451 kms.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with no history or service records.

We understand that the car entered the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in 2017.

With the proviso that we haven’t tried to drive this vehicle and can therefore only comment on its cosmetic condition, we think this 2017 Rolls-Royce Ghost is effectively a brand-new car with little more than delivery kilometres to show for its 5 years of life.

Exterior

The bodywork is more or less pristine.

The panels are straight and even, the bodywork is free of any significant flaws, and the panel gaps and shut lines seem consistent and even.

The two-tone paint finish has retained all of its shine and lustre.

The chrome and exterior trim are in excellent condition, as are the lights, lenses, badging and all exterior fixtures and fittings, including the gold-plated Spirit of Ecstasy.

The wheels are seemingly untroubled either by time or use.

The bottom of the boot lid has some bespoke badging in situ, but we don’t know what it signifies.

Aside from one or two stone chips on the front valance, there are few clues to suggest that the car has ever been used.

Interior

The interior is in the same virtually brand-new condition as the exterior.

The mahogany trim on the dashboard, door cappings, picnic tables and various inserts is rich and glossy.

The dark red carpets and lambswool rugs are thick and deep.

The metres of soft tan leather are sumptuous and devoid of any creases or other flaws that we can see.

The seats, front and back, appear to be in first class condition.

Like everything else in here, the door cards, curtains and headlining are all pretty much as good as new.

The umbrellas that should be inside the doors are still present.

We can’t vouch for the full functionality of the car’s many toggles, stops, levers, switches, dials, buttons, etc, as we haven’t tried to drive the vehicle.

Mechanical

Everything in the engine bay is in its right and proper place and entirely as you’d expect to find in a car that’s barely seen any use whatsoever.

Unsurprisingly, the car’s undersides seem only lightly acquainted with dirt or road use, and everything looks to have plenty of structural integrity.

History

This car doesn’t come with any history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

None of the paperwork shown in the gallery in any way constitutes any kind of licensing or registration certification.

Summary

Provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are as good as the rest of this magnificent car, we think this time-warp condition example is probably about as good as a (barely) used Ghost gets.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €150,000 - €250,000.

Viewing is always encouraged, and this car is located in Amsterdam, Netherlands. To arrange an appointment please use the ‘Contact Seller’ button at the top of the listing. Feel free to ask any questions or make observations in the comments section below, or try our ‘Frequently Asked Questions’.
