Who doesn’t love a hot hatch? The good folk at Renault have been building them for many a year, so they ought to know what they are doing by now!
The 5 GT Turbo, Clio Williams and a variety of hot Meganes have all rolled down the production line ready to thrill and excite.
The Clio 197 was noted for being one of the finest hot hatches of its generation and the F1 variant came equipped with the much desired ‘Cup’ chassis as standard.
There are rivals which were more refined, cheaper and quicker, but the F1’s dynamic prowess and back road fun factor were hard to beat. If driving pleasure is what your heart desires, then the feisty Clio will be right up your street.
The F1 was launched to commemorate Renault’s back to back world championships. On the outside garish stickers mark this out as something special and let’s not forget the 17-inch alloy wheels and red brake callipers…
Inside the Clio F1 boasts high-back racing Recaro seats, guaranteed to hold you in place whether enjoying a little track day hooliganism or merely pottering down to Tescos, taking the scenic route of course.
Chassis modifications were carried out by Renaultsport engineers, with stiffer springs and a lower ride height offering even greater standards of grip. Sharpened steering ensured bends could be attacked with millimetre precision and the Brembo brakes meant that the Clio’s stopping power was improved.
Under the bonnet sat a high revving 197bhp 2.0-litre engine, mated to a six-speed close ratio gearbox. A recipe for fun and games.
