‘Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes-Benz?

My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.’

In fact scratch that, there’s a reason why that’s the case. Big man, if you’re giving out freebies, then I’ll have Porker and a 911 at that please. There’s a reason why generation after generation of this Stuttgart wonder has been, and continues to be, voted ‘best sports car’.

In one of the automotive world’s most extraordinary tales of longevity (putting aside a momentary wobble at the tale end of the Seventies) the rear-engined, six-cylinder sports car from Stuttgart is still going strong in the present day.

Having first appeared in 1963, that means classic 911 aficionados can choose from an incredible variety of flavours. From the elegant Butzi Porsche designed original, with its evolved 356 looks and in all its air-cooled glory, through legendary hardcore ‘S and Carrera RS models, to the barnstorming Turbo. And pause for breath.

For those with a classic bent then forget anything post 1980, as it surely has to be an early example. There’s a car for every budget, and you’ll be assured of clean lines, well-engineered mechanicals and groovy period cabins that combine to give that quintessential 911 experience.

Engines were naturally aspirated (as here in T – for  ‘Touring’ – form) or fuel-injected until 1975 arrival of the Turbo, while gearboxes could be had in manual or semi-auto Sportomatic flavours.

Your final choice: tin-top, targa or ragtop? For some a convertible roof rips at the fabric (no pun intended) of the car’s aesthetic soul, and even a removable targa panel irrevocably alters a designer’s original lines.

If that’s you, then this lovely competition-prepped 911T should be right up your street – life’s a blast when an air-cooled six has your back.

Overview

“The Porsche 911T is in great good condition, it drives perfectly, has excellent brakes and sounds amazing,” states seller, Katrien Devos. “All previous owners have taken great care of her and we have almost all invoices going back to 1983 – even in Belgian and French francs!”

Supplied new to Belgium, this matching numbers 911T has had a recent and comprehensive mechanical overhaul; this included a full inspection and the following works/new parts:

  • Overhauled engine block
  • Overhauled gearbox
  • Up-rated roll bar
  • Automatic sprinkler system
  • Stainless steel exhaust
  • Coil springs
  • Professional shock absorbers (Heron Racing)
  • Brantz International 2 Pro and Blunik II tripmaster
  • Cibie headlamps

“There are a number of spare parts also. These include a set of wheels complete with tyres; a set of bucket seats; rally lights to fit the bonnet; and the original roll bar and exhaust system”. Pictures of these, and others, can be viewed in our Photographic Gallery, below.

The car’s Porsche certificate of authenticity can also be found in the history file and notes the following:

  • Chassis number: 9110121951
  • Engine number: 6106969
  • Gearbox number: 7110065

“We’ve owned the car since 2020, using it just for leisure in Belgium. However, having moved to Spain, with only short regular visits back, we now really lack the time to drive and enjoy it.

“It’s ready for immediate use for leisure, regional and roads exploration, and rally weekends. In fact, it’s perfect for those that love the latter, and those that like the sound of an epic Porsche.

“Of course, it has been used normally, so it is not in perfect condition for a museum or a private static collection – but, hey, that’s not what it was made for!”

Exterior

There’s a magnificent purity to an early Porsche 911 and it’s accentuated further, as here, when the car in question is presented in one of the model’s glorious period hues.

“Its Bahama yellow colour is very striking and beautiful in the sunlight; it’s definitely a car that catches the eye of pedestrians and hikers that you pass. For us, it’s always brought a smile to both our faces and those that see it”.

Visually, this isn’t a classic car for a shrinking violet because you will be bringing an automotive ray of sunshine with you wherever you go. As Katrien intimated above, the 911 is not perfect as it’s been driven and enjoyed by all previous owners, but it remains in very good usable condition.

That means you get solid bodywork (wheel arches look to be exemplary) with very good paint but there is a blemish or two present, including some small bubbles in a couple of places along the lower edges of the driver’s door and a larger dent just under the offside edge of the front bumper. As a rally/regularity car it wears its scars with pride!

The recent addition of the Cibie headlights are tres funky, whilst for a full rally look you can fit the additional quartet of bonnet lights. You will find rear spot-lamps in situ, with mudflaps at all four corners and a scuttle-panel mounted electrical cut-off completing the rally look.

Fuchs alloy wheels and each wear a fresh looking, and matching, 195/65 R15 Michelin rubber. A twin-exhaust system is also currently fitted, so the original notch on the rear valance is currently without tailpipe! The original is included, so the next owner can revert if needs be.

For us, it’s a visual treat.

Interior

It’s purposeful inside.

What you don’t get is any pretty… what we mean by that, is the headlining is stained and ripped in places, both front seats sport grazes, tears and rips, as do the door cards.

You know what, though? The cabin absolutely, 100 per cent suits this car’s all-out driving ethos.

Mechanical

“When you drive the Porsche it gives thrills (butterflies) as the sound is beautiful. The power you feel in the driver’s seat when the engine pulls is glorious – you really feel alive when driving this beauty”.

Katrien’s words certainly whet the appetite. Backing them up is the fact that the car has been relatively recently inspected, up-rated and overhauled where necessary to ensure that it’s absolutely ready for sale, and ready to be deployed for serious six-cylindered Teutonic fun on the road.

As the photographs in the Mechanical section of our Gallery show, the 911’s engine bay presents smartly with no obvious signs of leaks and similarly, the underside too looks to be in excellent condition.

History

You will find the original Porsche workshop manuals present in the history file, as well as folders full of documents dating back to 1983. A Porsche Certificate of Authenticity is included, as are the various documents relating to its Belgian registration.

As discussed above, the car’s original components are supplied should the next owner wish to return it to factory specification.

Please visit the documents section of the gallery of this listing where you will find photos to support our claim that this car has been set-up beautifully for fast road/rally work, as well as maintained and fettled to a very good standard.

Summary

Vendor Katrien succinctly summed up everything that this particular Porsche 911T would be suitable for; let us remind you, and include a few more: “leisure, regional and roads exploration, and rally weekends”. To that, add regularity rallies, fast road work, and a whole host of other petrolhead-related events.

A relatively recent mechanical overhaul allied to fitment of specific up-rated parts, sees Katrien state that it’s absolutely on the button and ready for action. We agree and think somewhere between €50,000 and €70,000 should secure this desirable rally-prepped 911T.

Once secured it will be time to drive it, and to do so hard – just as Porsche intended.
