Background

The Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 was unveiled at the 1983 Frankfurt Motor Show, a very important year for the House of Stuttgart, which 20 years earlier had unveiled in the same prestigious spot the first iconic 911 with the 2.0-litre engine. The 911 Carrera 3.2 was the latest evolution of the G Series model launched in 1974 and with a displacement of 3.2 litres and 231 hp, its air-cooled flat-six offered very high performance. With a top speed of 152 mph, the 911 Carrera 3.2 is still a very fast car, perfectly capable of satisfying old-school drivers. In light of such high performance, the braking system was improved, making the car safer and easier to drive even in the wet. Another strong point is the 915 gearbox: a five-speed manual designed to ensure smooth and precise gear shifts.

Overview

Finished in Dunkel Blue, a very deep midnight blue, the 911 Carrera 3.2 Cabriolet was registered for the first time in Italy in 1985. The chassis number is WPOZZZ91ZFS151328. The interior has been redone in beige leather, which makes it even more elegant. Six-seven years ago our seller found the car abandoned in a forest at the heart of Sardinia. As an expert restorer of classic cars, he put again to new all the body and mechanical parts. The interior was all redone from scratch in Germany by a professional upholsterer with original Porsche materials. The restoration of the 911 was completed last year and since then the car was only used during local classic car shows.

Exterior

As can be seen in the photos, the body of the 911 is as good as new. Although the car was found in a relict state in the middle of a forest, the vendor has managed to save and fully restore a lot of original parts, such as the front bonnet. Many other parts are factory originals, which certainly represents an added value from a historical-collecting point of view. Just to give an example, the back fenders were beaten by hand, while the aluminium bumpers were only sanded and repainted since they were completely free of dents. The Turbo-look rear spoiler is an original Porsche accessory of the time and adds a touch of grit to the look. Both the doors and the front fenders have been replaced with new ones. All rubber parts and gaskets are in very good order, as well as windows and light clusters, which are free from splits. The canvas soft top is new. The iconic Fuchs wheels are in perfect condition, and the four-season tires M+S also are new.

Interior

Like the exterior, the interior of the 911 has also been completely refurbished, although more in-depth work was needed to make the interior new again. That's because before it was found the car has been exposed for some fifteen years to direct sunlight and weather-beaten. Now, after an accurate restoration, the inside of the 911 is a triumph of leather and carpeting. As the photos of the recovery show, the 911 came with the dashboard and shift cap covered in beige leather - perhaps customization requested by the first owner. In any case, overall it goes well with the rest. As for the steering wheel, it is Momo branded and, according to the seller, is part of the original accessory line and in fashion at that time. Both the front seats are electrically adjustable. The dashboard is in very good condition, with the odometer showing a reading of 39.368 km. Being all redone from scratch, there are no signs of wear to report.

Mechanical

Equipped with the original 3164 cc engine, the 911 has been used only occasionally in the last year. Looking into the engine compartment, the engine looks very good, with no traces of corrosion. All wear parts have been replaced, from the rubber silent block hoses to the fuel lines. In addition to a complete service, the timing chain was checked and found to be in excellent condition. It is also certain that the injectors and fuel pump were also replaced. Looking at the underside, everything appears to be in order. Funds are in excellent condition, with no rust. The underside has been coated with an underseal type coating to protect it for the future.

History

The history of this Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Cabriolet is very special. The car was owned by an American marshal in the navy stationed at the Maddalena island base. Sadly, the car was stolen in 2001 and from that moment it was gone missing until five or six years ago when a pastor saw it abandoned close to his fold and report it to the current owner, who fully restore it.

Summary

This Porsche 911 is surely a very good example of the latest evolution of the G-model, which is the longest one (1974-1989) in the story of 911. The sound of the 3.2 litres air-cooled engine is like music for all fans. This car has been fully refurbished and that should give reassurance to the car’s new owner. The cabriolet body does the rest, making this great classic even more charming.
