To many, the 993 is one of if not the best 911. Made with a level of detail and development that would be uneconomical and unheard of today, hitting the sweet spot of design and technology from an era we now look back longingly to.

Porsche introduced a few model iterations of the 993 during its relatively short production run of 1994 to 1998. First out of the Stuttgart factory doors was the Carrera making 268bhp from its 3.6 litre flat six and 281bhp following a revision two years later. The all-wheel drive Carrera 4S followed in 1996 along with the lightweight RS version. The rear-wheel-drive version of the 4S, named the Carrera S came in 1997 with the pinnacle of the 993 lineage, the GT2 which was a homologation special built to meet requirements for the GT2 series.

The car you see here however is the Carrera 4S, which shares the same wide arch body, front bumper and lower suspension from the turbo model but is considered to be the ‘all-season’ 911 due to its new and pioneering all-wheel drive system.

In spectacular condition, with low owners and only 54,664 miles, this Carrera 4S is a special thing to behold.

Overview

If you’re looking for signs of good ownership when buying a car, then you’d be looking out for some key things, in the case of this 993, all the tick boxes are checked from what we’ve been told. The car has been in the same ownership for the past 21 years, which is an extraordinary time to own one vehicle, always garaged with a dust cover and the owners have avoided the rain like the plague.

Originally purchased from a dealership who had brought the car over from the Isle of Man, it has been religiously maintained with a full-service history, all MOTs with quote ‘no major problems, if any’. It’s clear just from looking through the outstanding photo gallery that this car has been very much loved during its life and further evidence of that comes from the owner, who was a mechanic, not being impressed with Porsche’s servicing stating it wasn’t thorough enough or done with the same care.

Now only being sold due to retirement’s arrival and the current owner wishing the car can go to a ‘younger home’. An impressive history, a desirable car in a wonderful specification with only 2 owners and 54,664 miles, a real diamond if we ever saw one.

Exterior

We won’t wax lyrical on how stunningly designed this car is and save the space to tell you the bare facts; it’s in impeccable condition…The sublime silver paintwork over silver wheels is peak 90’s style, topped off with the subtle red brake callipers breaking the monotone colour along with the uber cool red rear light bar to match the interior trim, they really don’t make ‘em like this anymore.

The wheels, shod in Pirelli P-zeros look to have plenty of tread and life left in them and the alloys themselves look to be free of any marks of damage. The paintwork looks to be in excellent condition also, with very little if any marks or blemishes throughout. There is also PPF installed just in front of the rear wheels to save any stone chipping from road driving.

The glass, lights and trim are all in good condition and everything works on the exterior as it should. The owners tell us that the car is all original too so there has been no replacement headlights of glass. The red brake callipers peeking out from behind those 5 spoke alloys look like they just come back from being refurbished with no marks or peeling.

Interior

The red leather upholstery is in fantastic condition with barely a mark or crease to be noted. Rear seats look to have barely been used with the carpets, headlining and door cards following suit. The dash looks to be in great order with hardly any marks on switchgear or black leather inserts, there seems to be only the smallest of marks just above the glovebox if we’re being super critical but it’s almost not worth mentioning.

The high wear areas of a car such as steering wheel, gear lever, driver’s bolsters etc are all in great condition here with no significant marks or blemishes to note, the dials and switches are all functional, including the sunroof and air conditioning. The car does have a tracker fitted just in case the unspeakable were to happen which is hidden and operational.

Mechanical

The powerplant of this 933 has been kept in just as good a condition as the rest of the car, if not better by a meticulous mechanic with a high level of care. The last service this car received was in March of this year at 54,655 miles, meaning it has done just 9 miles since.

There are no reported issues with the drivetrain and from the evidence of how the car has been kept thus far, we can imagine it has been driven and maintained with the same care and attention throughout its past 21 years.

Looking in the engine bay, there are no signs of split hoses, exposed wires or cracked pipework, no signs of fluid leaks either. The metalwork in the ‘frunk’ is all seemingly in good condition too unsurprisingly having been garaged kept and supposedly avoided the rain during its ownership. The underside looks in good condition too with the underseal doing its job well and only what looks to be surface rust on some of the components.

History

The car has an impressive service history with a valid MOT until 02.03.2024 with no advisories. There are printed/paper MOT forms for the previous 21 years and invoices for door seals and a sender unit from this year. Stamps in the service book date back to 1998 and have been completed regularly either on year or mileage since. The Porsche also comes with two keys and a leather-bound wallet with all the owner’s manuals along with the tracker information.

Summary

If you’ve read through the entire description, it won’t be hard to tell what we think of this car, we’re smitten and for good reason, this car has been very well looked after and remains in superb all-round condition. It’s in collector condition and would make a fine addition to any compilation of great automotive icons, or it would equally make a fine long term practical investment that you could actively enjoy regularly. If the same level of care and attention is afforded to the car as its seen during its 26 years on the road, then there is no doubt it could last the next 26 in the same outstanding state it’s in now.

Our estimate for this car is £80,000 - £90,000.
