Overview

Because it has come from long-term static display, we haven’t tried to start or drive this LHD Plymouth Sport Fury, and can therefore only attest to its cosmetic condition.

We know that the VIN is: PS23H8R179319.

We know that, today, the odometer reads 68,720 miles.

And we know that it was bought for the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in 2017.

Our research suggests that the car’s engine is the 426 cu in (7-litre) ‘Commando’ V8.

The car needs some attention to the bodywork in a few places and is probably, we think, in the ‘light project’ category.

It has the front bucket seats and full centre console.

Exterior

The bodywork is relatively free of dinks and dents, but not entirely. The green metallic paintwork is good in parts, less so in others.

The big dent in the rear bumper is particularly prominent.

There is a far smaller dent at the top of the n/s/f wing and another in the o/s/r wing.

The chrome is dull, tarnished or slightly foxed in numerous places.

The o/s/f tyre is flat.

There is some kind of baked-on foam present around the rims of the front wheel arches and along the tops of the sills.

There are a few dinks and dents around the n/s/f wheel arch that may or may not be concealing some bubbling. It’s hard to say.

There is some bubbling and blistering along the edges of the roof.

There is a small impact crater in the middle of the windscreen, which is also delaminating in places at the edges. There is a patch of missing paint below the windscreen.

There is rust inside the chrome trim around the windows.

The worst of the oxidisation is at the rear of the car, where the n/s/r wing is holed by rust, as is the inside lip of the boot on both sides.

The lower lip of the boot is also holed in several places.

The boot lid has bubbling and flaking on the bottom edge and micro-blistering all over.

The section below the rear screen has flaking rust and bubbling here and there.

The lights, lenses and badging all look reasonably good.

Interior

The interior condition is consistent with its exterior counterpart inasmuch as both need work but neither is beyond redemption.

In fact, the interior could be improved fairly quickly with some vigorous cleaning and buffing as the whole space looks rather dusty and shabby overall at present.

The white vinyl seats, front and back, are not too bad, save for a couple of tiny holes in each front seat and a short rip at the base on the driver’s side.

The back of the driver’s seat has come loose.

The door cards are dirty and a bit shabby. The inserts next to the inside door handles are missing.

The headlining is dirty and discoloured, as are the interior ‘A’ pillars. The plastic covering the interior n/s ‘C’ pillar is cracked.

The black carpets and mats aren’t too bad.

The dashboard looks a little tired and in need of some TLC.

We can’t make any claims about the functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t tried to start the vehicle.

Opening the boot reveals perhaps the worst of the localised rust issues. There are numerous small holes in the floor in several places.

The boot contains the chrome trim for the wheels.

Mechanical

In general, the undersides of the car appear to have a reasonable amount of structural integrity, but there is some rust and flaking in evidence in areas: you should assess this for yourself.

The engine and engine bay look dusty but dry. Some parts, like the Edelbrock air intake, starter motor and Holley carb, look relatively new.

History

The car doesn’t come with any history or service records.

It is not registered anywhere (this'll have to be done by the winning bidder) however, import tax & duty has been paid. This car now has a NOVA which has been applied for by the seller.

Currently, it has neither an MoT certificate nor a V5. It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this. Any paperwork shown in the gallery in no way constitutes any kind of licensing or registration certification.

Summary

We haven’t tried to start or drive the car so our understanding of it is somewhat limited.

Yes, this 1968 Plymouth Sport Fury Coupe needs some attention, but we think the car’s rarity value (this one potentially has the potent 426ci ‘Commando’ V8 engine) might well make the time and effort required worthwhile.

Provided, of course, that the engine and mechanicals prove to be amenable to recommissioning.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of £7,000 - £10,000.
