Background
Introduced in 2003, the X350 series XJ6 and XJ8 saw Jaguar ditch their classic three-box outline for its new ‘modern’ luxury saloon, which was made utilising lightweight aluminium wherever possible, in order to reduce weight and improve efficiency.
The six-cylinder XJ also made a return in the form of the ‘6’ and - for the first time - a diesel-powered option was also offered, allowing the more budget-conscious driver an economical way into Jaguar ownership. Whilst it was not quite as exciting as the V8 powered models, the high MPG and laid-back attitude of a diesel engine suited the XJ well, allowing it to effortlessly cross continents with fewer fuel stops.
Naturally, the AJ-V8 engine featured in the X350 lineup, both in N/A form in the XJ8, and in supercharged guise for the more rowdy - yet still impressively refined - XJR.
Finally, those who were really flush with cash could opt for the ‘Super 8’ which combined XJR running gear with luxurious specifications, softer suspension and chrome detailing.
However, thanks to their limited production run in short-wheelbase form (lasting for only a year) SWB Super-Eights are hard to come by. Thankfully, savvy shoppers were able to appoint an XJ8 up to Super-Eight levels of luxury, which is exactly what the first owner of this XJ8 opted to do…
