2021 Honda 'Red Bull F1' Paddock Bike

As all F1 fans out there will know, the fastest vehicles at any F1 circuit are - in order of swiftness - the F1 cars, the safety car, and the nippy little scooters that F1 drivers use to zip around the pit lane and the paddock.

We’ve all seen them. They look like a lot of fun.

The vendor, who collects all sorts of classic and other automotive bits and pieces, has decided that this is a collector niche he’d like to explore – which is why he has a number of these fabulous little pit lane and paddock scooters.

The super-low mileage example we have for you today was originally registered to Red Bull Racing and was the personal paddock and pit lane transport for a certain Sergio Michel ‘Checo’ Pérez Mendoza – better known to the wider world as Sergio Pérez or, more affectionately, just ‘Checo’.

And affection is the right work to apply to ‘Checo’, who is still racing in F1 today (Cadillac) and is one of the few F1 drivers about whom no-one has a bad word to say.

Everybody loves ‘Checo’.

And this was his scooter, as the Red Bull livery, ‘Checo’ badge, and number 11 decals testify.

Incidentally, Pérez’s ‘11’ race number is an homage to one of his childhood heroes, footballer Ivan Zamorano, who wore the number on his shirt in his final season playing for Perez's favourite team, Club America.

So, now you know.

The bike starts, runs and, as far as we can tell, everything does what it’s supposed to do in a timely and faithful manner.

An engine light is currently showing on the display, but our less than extensive knowledge of Honda scooter warning lights doesn’t allow us to know what it might mean.

Probably very little, given the bike’s excellent overall condition and tiny mileage of just 82 miles.

You’ve got to give it to Red Bull, their corporate colour palette and design guidelines make for a very handsome livery, on F1 cars and paddock scooters alike.

The bodywork on this very handsome example is entirely bereft of any dinks or dents.

Even routine, run-of-the-mill stone chips and scuffs are extremely few and far between, and the colour contrast between the bike’s dark blue satin finish and the bright red and yellow decals is, to our eye, very fetching indeed.

The wheels are in fine fettle, as are the Michelin City Grip tyres, which look barely acquainted with any sort of road surface.

The front forks, rear shocks, black exhaust and black trim are all pretty much beyond reproach.

There are a few scuffs to be found by the Honda badging beneath the rider’s foot plate on the nearside, a couple of very minor scuffs on the black cowling just above and in front of the instrument cluster, and a scuff to the Red Bull decal on the offside above the rear wheel.

Rest assured, these are all very insignificant flaws.

It won’t have been lost on the more attentive and observant of you that the inside of this scooter is very much in the same place as the outside.

Obviously, motorcycles, mopeds and scooters don’t really have an interior but we’re choosing this section to talk about the seats, instrumentation and controls.

The black vinyl on the main seat is untroubled either by time or use, as it is on the pillion seat - we’ve all seen F1 drivers perched atop the pillion as they make the ride of shame from the location of their crashed and/or broken-down car back to the pit lane.

We can’t say whether or not ‘Checo’ ever made such a humiliating trip as a passenger on this scooter.

Someone out there will know, that’s for sure

The useful storage space beneath the seat is in good order and, with a capacity of 28 litres, it’s rather more capacious than you might imagine.

The reason being that the fuel tank, which previously occupied much of the under-seat void, is now tucked away in the space beneath the rider’s feet.

The scooter’s dials, switches and controls, all look good to us, although, as we haven’t ridden the bike, we can’t vouch for their functionality, efficacy or accuracy.

Again, as we haven’t ridden the bike, we can’t voice an opinion on how well it handles or rides.

We can say that everything on and ancillary to the engine and drivetrain looks pretty much squeaky clean and minty fresh, and there are no big scuffs or dinks anywhere to suggest the bike has ever been dropped.

As for the underside, what you see is what you get. It’s all there, open for inspection, and it all looks good to us with no leaks, drips or damage.

The scooter comes with a recent HPI report, a V5C, a set of keys, an owner’s manual, and a service and warranty booklet.

This is a very capable and eminently practical machine.

It has a top speed of about 65mph, a claimed average fuel consumption of 125mpg, a range of 199 miles, and 28 litres of on-board storage.

Somehow, we don’t think you’ll be particularly interested in any of that.

This was the personal paddock and pit lane transport of F1 legend Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez.

Enough said.
