2004 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti

“It’s a wonderful car to drive. It’s super quick and a real head turner,” says the vendor. “I love it and my kids love it but sadly, because I have other performance cars and a wedding to pay for, I have to say goodbye to it. That was never really my intention otherwise I wouldn’t have spent £8k on it recently, but life changes…

“When I bought the car, it had a slight fading of colour on the bonnet due to sunlight,” he explains. “It has been in the body shop at Project Heaven for the last 5 months having this rectified, with the whole front end re-sprayed and blended in completely. 

“Within the cabin, the leather connecting the top of the dash to the windscreen had come away and was split; this has also been rectified and repaired, so now presents as new. The majority of the £8k went on the bodywork and I spent it for my own benefit as the car didn’t need it, but I wanted the improvements done for myself more than anything.

“The body and paintwork are now pristine. It’s an exceptional car and one that’s also in excellent mechanical condition. I’ll be sad to see it go… I hope it goes to a good home, because I’ve no doubt that the next owner will absolutely love it”.

The 612 Scaglietti also comes with a relatively fresh MOT test certificate, which runs until 28/11/2024, and has a formidable service history, with the following stamps in its service book:

It’s quite a grand and elegant looking thing, is a 612 Scaglietti. Contemporary Ferraris, even their GTs, with their vents, spoilers and numerous other addenda can tend to look as if they’ve driven rather speedily through Halfords on the way to supplying dealers. Not this car, it is old school: understated, stylish and yet, still with just a modicum of outright visual aggression. 

The restorative works carried out by Project Heaven’s body shop have rectified its only real exterior flaw, which was the slight colour difference between the bonnet and the rest of the vehicle. It also means that there is not a single stone-chip to be found on the front end. Stunning.

The exterior panel-work is aided and abetted by lovely, and still supremely clean, five-spoke silver alloy wheels. To these a fresh set of Pirelli P Zero tyres (245/40 R19 front, and 285/40 R19 rear) was fitted on 30/04/2020 at a cost of £781.39. And with just under 4k miles since you can be assured that they still have plenty of life in ‘em yet. 

Prancing horse shields on both front wings are the topping on this sophisticated Italian supercar cake.   

Tan leather is surely Maranello’s ultimate go-to cabin colour – even more so, when mated to Blue paintwork. The visual combination is superb; be in doubt, this is a car that once parked you’ll look back at every single time. 

Ensconce yourself within and the cabin provides a light and luxurious ambience; it’s an interior environment to make devouring large mileages an absolute pleasure. Especially when you have a screaming V12 ready to have its taps opened. 

The work to the leather dash top means that it now presents as it did when the car left the factory. There are still slight usage marks on the steering wheel and other minor signs of cabin life such as on the driver’s seat bolster, but it generally remains very smart. 

The owner prior to James had an upgraded Kenwood DNX5190 DABS audio system fitted at a cost of £589.99 by car audio centre of Nottingham on 03/02/2021 so high-fidelity tunes, as well as access to Android and Apple Car Play can also be enjoyed, but why would you with that engine under the bonnet?

The full Ferrari toolkit is still present, with electronic battery, tyre pump, spanners and screwdrivers all housed in their leather case. 

The vendor is glowing in his praise of how the car drives - “superb” is the only word he required.

Thanks to a surfeit of black plastic covers, many modern cars miss a trick with their under-bonnet presentation; no such worries here, for it’s a red powder-coated banquet for the eyes. It’s also worth noting that thanks to a bit of TLC, it also presents sharper under here than it did when we last saw the car. 

The 612’s underside remains as was, with the odd sign of interaction with traffic calming measures to be seen but in otherwise excellent fettle. 

It should be noted that the engine light is currently illuminated, which has only recently come on and we are told is emanating from an Oxygen Sensor. 

Delivered new to its first owner on the 25th of November 2004, he subsequently covered 3900 miles before selling it. As the car’s history file shows, the second owner proceeded to then use it for 15 years covering circa 53,000 miles and with no expense spared. 

During their ownership, the car’s registration transferred from owner to his wife, then to his business and finally reverted once again back to him. The V5c document now shows a total of seven owners from new, however it’s worth stating that four of them were, in essence, the same individual.

As well as the 612’s owner’s hand- and service-books (nicely presented in their original tan leather document wallet), you will also find a profusion of invoices for maintenance, servicing and other restorative works. All those for the recent £8k outlay by vendor James are also present, so it’s worth taking your time to electronically flick through them in order to gauge just how well this Ferrari has been cared for. 

The car comes with two key fobs, as well as both sets of the all-important red security key.

When buying a supercar you need proof that it’s been serviced regularly and fettled when required, and this example’s history file provides evidence of both. It has had 18 services since new, sometimes with two taking place in a year; further to that, a large sheaf of invoices provides evidence of both reparative and restorative measures, as well as other general maintenance.

The rest? Well, you still get that tub-thumping quad-cam V12 engine, a wondrously evocative interior and the ability to propel four proper-sized adults at speeds bordering on the ridiculous.
