Background

THIS CAR IS BEING RE-AUCTIONED AFTER THE PREVIOUS WINNER DEFAULTED ON THE SALE AND SUBSEQUENTLY LOST THEIR DEPOSIT. THE CAR IS IN SUPERB CONDITION AND STARTS AND RUNS.

Back in 1953, Chevrolet's launch of a two-seater sportscar was a radical departure for a marque previously associated almost exclusively with sensible family transport.

Intended as competition for the T-Series MG, the Corvette was nearly as expensive as the Jaguar XK120, but with inferior performance. A V8 engine for 1955 and a radical re-style for '56 helped to better establish the Corvette in the sportscar market.

The Corvette C4 of the 1990s was a serious performance car, but it looked a little modest next to the Dodge Viper.

In response, the C5, which had been in development since the Q-Corvette of 1987, took the fight right back to Chrysler.

The C6 Corvette was more about refining than redesigning, but it had the updated 6.0-litre LS2 engine, capable of getting the car to 100 km/h in around 4.3 seconds on the way to a top speed of 310 km/h.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax on top of the winning bid price (9%). Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If the winning bidder exports it to their country then they will only pay taxes in that country (you will not pay tax twice).

This vehicle has been on static display for a number of years and the documented history available is limited to that displayed in the photo section.

The car starts and runs, but we have not tried to drive it, and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’. Registering the car will be entirely the winning bidders responsibility.

CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for this car which is within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until all payments are made. For all enquiries relating to Customs, please contact CARS Europe BV (contact details below).

CARS Europe BV will contact you just after the sale to confirm tax & duty charges and onward transport requirements. Direct contact at CARS for enquiries is as follows; Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

STORAGE CHARGES - €30 + local VAT per motor car per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end.

CUSTOMS CHARGES - €500 per motor car (plus applicable permanent import taxes from bond).

Chassis No: 1G1YY24U855121544

Odometer: 288 km.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with hardly any history and no service records.

With the proviso that we haven’t tried to drive this car and can therefore only comment on its cosmetic condition, we think this 2005 LHD auto Chevrolet Corvette C6 is as close to a brand-new car as you can get without travelling back in time.

With just 288 km on the odometer, it is virtually unused – a fact supported by its apparently pristine condition, outside, inside and underneath.

Exterior

The panels are straight and even, the bodywork is almost entirely free of any flaws, and the paintwork is as shiny and bright as the day the car was built.

The wheels are in excellent condition, as are the lights, lenses and exterior trim.

There are just one of two tiny stone chips on the leading edge of the bonnet and a couple of light scratches at the rear of the car below the flag badge.

It looks like what it is: a car that has spent its life in dry storage from new.

Interior

Unsurprisingly, it’s the same story inside the car.

The beige leather seats are in first-class condition and have barely a crease to show for their 17 years of life.

The carpets and mats are fine.

The door cards and lift-out roof panel are excellent.

The dashboard and instruments look to be very good, too.

We can’t make any claims about the functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t tried to drive the vehicle.

In general, all the interior needs is a thorough clean to remove one of two scuffs here and there.

Mechanical

Everything we’ve seen underneath looks as if it has recently left the showroom. The engine sounds fantastic.

From what we can see, everything has a great deal of structural integrity and there is no rust in evidence anywhere.

Everything in the engine bay is in its right and proper place and seems to be clean and dry.

History

This car doesn’t come with any history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

Any paperwork shown in the gallery is a facsimile and in no way constitutes any kind of licensing or registration certification.

Summary

It’s hard to imagine that there will be many other 17-year-old Chevrolet Corvette C6s out there with just 288 km on the odometer.

Provided, of course, that the engine and mechanicals are as good as the rest of this extraordinary vehicle, this ‘Vette is probably one of the best-preserved examples of the model anywhere in the world.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €25,000 - €35,000.
