Background

The Cadillac Series 75 is a full-size series of V8-powered cars produced by the luxury marque from the 1930s to the 1980s. The Series 75 replaced the 1935 Cadillac 355E as the company’s flagship model. For much of the postwar era, the Series 75 was the top-of-the-line Cadillac and was also the brand’s factory limousine.

Overview

For the 1957/1958 model years, Cadillac gave the Series 75 a tubular X-frame without side rails which resulted in a massive increase in structural rigidity and provided for a lower body without a loss of usable space. ¬In 1958, the grille was redesigned, bumper guards were lowered, new dual headlights were introduced, and the tailfins became “more reserved.”

Exterior

The exterior to this Cadillac was painted a highly unique shade of Green-Silver. The paint has been evenly applied around the car, but there are some flawed areas. One of the rubber caps to the front bumper is deteriorating, the chrome trim on the driver’s front wheel arch is dented, and there is some bubbling at the bottom of the driver’s door and the door behind it. There is also some bubbling on the trunk of the car as well. The glass around the car is clean and free of chips and cracks. The hubcaps and tires are tidy, hubcaps especially, but we always recommend a new set of tires just to be safe.

Interior

The inside is black leather up front, and blue velour in the back seat. The front compartment is slightly weathered but there does not appear to be any major damage. Starting with the door panels, both are clean, but the driver’s side armrest is looking rather tired. As for the seats, the black leather bench is overall in good condition with no holes or tears, but there are signs of creasing. The carpets would benefit most if they were replaced, the current ones fit very awkwardly everywhere, especially around the pedals. The dash pad is free of cracks, and the steering wheel and dashboard are both neat and tidy. In the rear compartment, things get much cleaner. The carpets have an excellent fit, and the material around the door panels and up at the front of the compartment are all clean and tight. The fold-up seats are clean, operate as intended, and have no holes or tears. Speaking of no holes or tears, the rear bench looks delightfully overstuffed and supremely comfortable. One damaged area in the rear is the passenger side door. The exposed metal trim is heavily scratched in one area and should be addressed if the car is to be shown competitively.

Mechanical

The Market by Bonhams is pleased to report that there is no major damage hiding underneath the vehicle. Surface corrosion is present but is commensurate with the age of the vehicle. The exhaust exhibits minor discoloration, and the suspension components are neat and tidy. The engine bay is clean as well although there does appear to be some surface corrosion present too.

History

With the documents available to us, we have determined that the seller acquired the vehicle in August of 2017.

Summary

The Series 75 is a wonderful piece of Cadillac’s history. The Series 75, with a few breaks, was a car sold by Cadillac for almost 50 years. The car was offered in several body styles, and all of them contributed to Cadillac’s reputation as a powerhouse in the luxury car segment. Today’s example is in solid shape, with some areas that need addressing both inside and out. This limousine makes for a great driver, and only needs a little extra work to be taken to the next level. For all these reasons, we are confident that this Series 75 will reach its $10,000 - $20,000 estimate.
