Background

When William Towns’ aggressively beautiful V8s reached the end of their long run, Aston took an altogether different aesthetic direction once again.

Out went any kind of homage to steroidal pony cars, in came a more modern sculpted look underpinned by de Dion tube rear suspension and a double wishbone unit at the front.

Still a fabulously indulgent hand-built car, the Virage managed to retain its gentleman’s club ambience in the face of cost-cutting measures from new owners Ford: measures that included raiding the Ford, GM, Jaguar, Volkswagen and Audi parts bins for all sorts of lights, mirrors, switches and other components.

That vintage of Virage gave way to the next generation of Astons, starting with the DB7, then the DB9, etc, etc, and it seemed the Virage name might be gone forever.

Not so.

Announced at the 2011 Geneva International Motor Show, the luxury GT sports car made a short-lived return during the 2012 model year only, with just 656 produced.

Fitted with the 6.0-litre V-12 engine and with styling to die for, the Virage produced almost 500 bhp and came with Touchtronic semi-automatic transmission as standard.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car, and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, [email protected].

VIN: SCFEDEAN4CGG13871

This LHD semi-auto 2012 Aston Martin Virage has just 165 kms on the odometer and is more or less a new car that’s been kept warm, dry and inactive since it was delivered new to the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles a decade ago.

We haven’t started or driven the car, so we can only assess it on its cosmetic condition.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with no history or service records, but it does have 3 sets of keys including the all-important ‘crystal’ key, and it also has its original Aston Martin specification sheets, a duplicate owners’ manual, a car cover, umbrella and Aston Martin battery conditioner.

Exterior

The bodywork is very good and is free of any dinks, dents, creases or folds of any real significance.

So, too, is the glossy black paintwork, which has clearly not been exposed to very much of anything at all.

The wheels, lights and badging (which includes what we think is dealership badging) are all good.

There are a couple of scuffs on the driver’s side rear wing and around the front wheel arch on the same side.

There are also a few scratches on the bonnet and another one on the roof.

Interior

The interior is every bit as untroubled by use and the passage of time as its exterior counterpart.

The red leather with cream piping upholstery is uncreased, comfortable and supportive.

Hardly surprising when you consider that people have only sat on it for as long as it took to cover 165 kms (which probably isn’t very long in a car capable of 295 km/h).

The door cards are fine, as is the headlining, the carpets, the mats and all interior fixtures and fittings.

The boot is in the same exemplary condition.

We can’t make any claims about the full functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t driven the car.

Mechanical

The clean, dry engine and engine bay look fine and the undersides of the car appear to have plenty of structural integrity – as you would expect of a car that’s only barely acquainted with any kind of road surface.

History

This car comes with no history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification unless otherwise stated.

Summary

Basically, aside from one or two minor scratches, this is a 10-year-old brand-new car.

Provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and as good as the rest of it, this is probably your best route to ownership of a showroom-fresh 2012 Virage.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €40,000 - €60,000.
