Background

The Aston Martin Vanquish first appeared at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2001. Designed by the legendary Ian Callum, it was developed from the Project Vanquish concept car of 1998.

The world’s motoring press were suitably wowed, praising its stunning looks and lauding its modernity. It would doubtless receive the same reaction if it were to first appear today. Elegantly timeless…

The design is so very modern, with a bonded carbonfibre, composite and aluminium chassis all clothed in hand-formed aluminium body panels. The result is a car that is as stiff as it is strong and much lighter than if it had been crafted using more traditional methods.

Available as either a two-seater or a 2 + 2, under that sculptured bonnet sits a naturally aspirated V12 engine, paired with a six-speed electrohydraulic semi-automatic gearbox. There’s power aplenty, not surprising when the motor produces a heady 460bhp.

Headline figures suggest the Vanquish will sprint from rest to 60mph in less than five seconds and should you be so inclined, will continue to pull to somewhere north of 190mph.

Bond aficionados will recall the Vanquish’s starring role in Die Another Day and film buffs voted it the third best film car of all time behind the Minis used in The Italian Job and the legendary Aston Martin DB5. The latter of course starred in Goldfinger and Thunderball.

So, if you fancy indulging your inner Bond, we are delighted to be offering for sale a rare, low mileage Vanquish and one which has been in the same care of one man since it was delivered by Lancaster Aston Martin in Reading in 2005.

Overview

The car we are selling comes with the desirable Sports Dynamic Pack (SDP). The CEO of Aston Martin said at the time:

A slightly more sporting, more focused approach to the current car but incorporating all of the elements that have made the V12 Vanquish the ultimate in Aston Martin motoring. The Sports Dynamic Pack will appeal to a very high proportion of customers and has been priced to encourage maximum take up.”

Principle changes over the standard car were to the chassis/suspension and the brakes. The front upright and wheel assembly were made stronger and stiffer with shorter springs (reducing the ride height by 5mm) and revised dampers.

Also, the steering was made more highly geared and was therefore 20% quicker than previously. The front brake discs were increased to 378mm in diameter and six pot callipers replaced the four pot items.

The easiest way to identify the SDP equipped car is by the lightweight 9 slim spoke wheels and the brake discs with an elliptical groove pattern.

The SDP V12 Vanquish was only available for a few months before being replaced by the V12 Vanquish S. It is said that just 94 examples were made, so a rare beast then!

Our seller was lucky enough to enjoy the Vanquish, which was bought new by his company. On retirement, the car was gifted to him and was much enjoyed for many years. With old age creeping up on him, the car was taken off the road in 2014 and stored.

With the intention of selling the car, a major programme of recommissioning was begun last year and after great expense, the Vanquish is now ready to find a new home.

Exterior

Smart, understated, traditional… the green hue of the Vanquish suits the car just perfectly.

Not unexpectedly for a performance car, there are some marks, light scratches and stone chips on the nose of the car, but these do little to spoil the look.

Closer inspection will reveal some scratches elsewhere, most noticeable on the rear bumper, aft of the offside wheel. There are also some chips on the front wings too.

The 9-spoke alloy wheels look oh so smart and seem to have stood the test of time rather well. The nearside front has lost its centre cap though. Tyres all have plenty of tread.

The cherished registration number is to remain with the car and provides a handy reminder of what lies under the bonnet!

Interior

The two-tone green and cream leather is rather striking and is of course of the highest quality. Almost every surface is clad and the smell when you open the door quite divine.

In keeping with the car’s low mileage and gentle use, the front seats show just a little creasing, with the merest trace of wear on the driver’s seat bolster, from where the seat belt rubs. They are superbly comfortable and supportive, the electric adjustment ensuring a perfect driving position.

There are back seats, ideal for children or for extra luggage space. We do notice a crease to the offside rear backrest.

Carpets tone in nicely and over mats have ensured that they have stayed in great condition.

If the sound of the V12 engine is not enough to excite, there is a high-quality Linn audio system fitted. In addition, there is a fitted Motorola car phone handset, very much of the period.

Sometimes it’s the small details that excite and the Vanquish’s interior boasts plenty. Whether it’s the prominent engine start button, the aluminium pedals or the bespoke instrumentation, there’s a lot to take in and enjoy, before any drive even commences. And what a thrill that drive will be…

The boot is a decent size, making this Aston an ideal holiday companion. A car in which a long continental road trip would surely be a joy. There’s a fitted umbrella and a CD autochanger in there too and the car comes with a trickle charger, ideal should the car only be used occasionally.

Mechanical

Under the bonnet, the engine bay is presented in nice order, the V12 engine undoubtedly being the star of the show. It’s an impressive sight.

We always include plenty of pictures of a car’s underside and that is most definitely the case here. Pause a while and check out our photo gallery.

Protective trays cover the car’s vital components, but other than some surface dirt, it all looks to be in decent order.

History

The service book shows that initial servicing was carried out by supplying dealer Lancaster in Reading. This was followed by a couple of services by Stratstone in Amersham. The last was in 2012, the mileage then reading 33,503.

Our seller took the car off the road in 2014 and last year set about a major programme of recommissioning.

In our picture section you will find copies of the invoices, totalling over £12,000.

The latest, from February of this year from performance car specialist McGurk is for repairs to the gearbox ECU and to cure a non-starting issue.

Other invoices show servicing and replacement of important fluids was carried out as well as a complete professional valet inside and out.

There were also some repairs carried out to the lower front subframe by Classic and Collectable Automobile Services.

We are told that the Aston now drives as one would expect.

You will also find a copy of an RAC vehicle history check in our gallery which confirms this is a UK car with no outstanding finance.

The Vanquish was MoTed in August 2021 at 37,555 miles. There were some advisories and very minor defects reported.

The car comes with two sets of keys and remotes.

Summary

This low mileage Aston Martin Vanquish is a rare find indeed, especially with the Sports Dynamic Pack.

Presented in an eye-catching colour combination and subject to much recent expense, this British-built performance cruiser looks set fair to delight its next lucky owner.

Cars of this ilk are fast disappearing as we rush towards electrification so a V12 bruiser such as this is surely a car to buy and keep forever? Just owning such a car will excite, but once behind the wheel that’s where the fun really starts.

We expect the car to sell for between £58,000 and £66,000.

Viewing is always encouraged, within government guidelines of course. The car is located at our Abingdon headquarters; we are open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and to arrange an appointment please use the ‘Contact Seller’ button at the top of the listing.
