Background

Launched in 2003 as successor to the DB7, the DB9 was the first model to be built at Aston Martin's new factory at Gaydon, Warwickshire.

Like its DB7 predecessor, the DB9 was styled by Ian Callum.

The DB9 is powered by a development of the 5.9-litre, 48-valve, V12 engine found in the DB7 Vantage, which produced 470bhp, an output sufficient to propel the aerodynamic coupé to a top speed of 305km/h.

The aluminium engine is mounted as far back as possible in the chassis while the transmission/final drive is positioned ahead of the rear axle, resulting in 85% of the car's mass being sited between the axles and a perfect 50/50 front/rear weight distribution.

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax on top of the winning bid price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase (9%). Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer.

This vehicle has been on static display for a number of years and the documented history available is limited to that displayed in our photography section.

We have not tried to start or drive the car, and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

VIN: SCFAD01AM5GA01324

Odometer: 3,837 km.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with no history or service records.

With the proviso that we haven’t tried to start or drive this car and can therefore only comment on its cosmetic condition, we think this LHD automatic 2004 Aston Martin DB9 Coupé is an exceptional example of a superb GT car from one of the world’s most prestigious marques.

We believe it may have been imported new to Qatar, then sold to someone in Switzerland, then bought for the vendor in 2014.

It may have been returned to Aston Martin’s Works Service department for preparation before being placed in the vendor’s static display collection.

This is, in effect, a virtually brand-new car, having done little more than delivery kilometres since leaving the factory in 2004.

Exterior

This car has barely made an impression on the odometer and looks and feels like a new vehicle.

The Merlot Red paintwork has plenty of shine and lustre to it and, aside from one of two tiny stone chips in the usual places (front valance, sills, wheel arches) and some light scuffs at the front of the bonnet, looks pretty much as good as new.

The same is true of the bodywork, with no panels compromised by any indentations, bumps, nicks, scratches or creases as far as we can see.

All exterior trim is good, as are the chrome, badging, lights and lenses.

The wheels seem to be good all round.

Interior

The interior looks just as exceptional as the exterior.

The colour scheme is a combination of what Aston Martin describes as ‘Cream Truffle’ upholstery, with ‘Black Cherry’ carpets, ‘Ivory’ suede headlining and ‘Bamboo’ wood veneers.

It comes with a Linn 260W audio system (Limbik 5.2).

It’s all very classy, very luxurious and in very good condition.

The seats are unmarked and uncreased – both front and back.

It looks like what it is – the interior of a car that’s hardly been used since it was purchased.

The steering wheel is immaculate, as is the gear selector, the door cards, the headlining, the carpets, the mats and all fixtures and fittings.

There are a couple of smudges, no doubt caused by the ingress and egress of the driver, on the kick plate and at the bottom of the dashboard on the driver’s side.

They look like the sort that would soon surrender if threatened with a damp cloth.

We can’t make any claims about the functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t tried to start the vehicle.

Mechanical

Everything looks almost showroom-fresh. There is no rust anywhere that we can see.

All visible exhaust, braking and suspension components are present, correct and apparently untroubled either by time or use.

Everything in the engine bay is in its right and proper place and appears to be clean and dry.

History

The car doesn’t come with any history or service record.

Any paperwork we have is photographed and displayed in the photo gallery. We do not have anything else. They are photocopies (we do not have the originals.

Summary

Forget the fact that it was made in 2004.

It might as well have been made last week.

It is in very good condition indeed.

Provided that the engine and mechanicals are as good as the rest of it, this car could well be one of the best-preserved Aston Martin DB9s of this vintage you’ll find anywhere.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €30,000 - €60,000.
