2000 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Coupe

The auction car is from the second year of DB7 Vantage production, one of 2.091 Vantage coupes made from 1999 - 2003.

Vantage nomenclature denotes a V12 engine, which was first offered alongside, but soon replaced the initial supercharged, Jaguar-based straight-six.

This particular car shows fewer than 22,000 and has a salvage title for fire damage. As photos show, the car shows no immediately obvious evidence of having been involved in a fire, however it may have underlying or related issues.

DB7 styling changed little during the car’s 1994-2004 production run, probably due to the strength of Ian Callum’s timeless original design. Vantage coupes and Volantes introduced large front fog lights, new mirrors, wheels, and other relatively minor changes, but Mazda-sourced tail lights and door handles remained–fortunately, they’ve always looked as if they were designed for the job.

The auction example wears spectacularly handsome but rarely seen colors. Wheels are from the 2003-2004 DB7 GT/GTA, a limited-production runout model with retuned suspension, upgraded brakes, more power (for GT-spec manual transmission cars), and various styling changes including a mesh grille.

The car looks standard and very well-kept inside as well, and its lovely nutmeg brown and navy leather upholstery complements the cabin’s various rich woods to spectacular effect. Note the radio blanking plate–with a 7,000 rpm, quad-cam V12 to provide the tunes, no conventionally composed music is required.

It’s commonly held that Aston simply paired a couple of Mondeo/Contour V6’s to create its V12, though in reality the two have little in common beyond shared pistons and some valvetrain components. The Aston V12 utilizes an entirely unique block, cylinder heads, and crankshaft, for starters.

Rated at 420 hp and 400 lb-ft in standard Vantage form, Aston’s V12 is renowned for its extraordinary flexibility and vocal range. Automatic transmission-equipped Vantages are capable of accelerating to 60 mph in about five seconds flat, and manuals shave only a tenth or so from that figure.

Three-pedal cars are great to drive, though automatics are every bit as satisfying, thanks to the innately torque-rich, responsive nature of Aston’s V12, as well as the GT-tuned platform beneath.

DB7’s are among the most beautiful and capable GT’s of their time, and V12 Vantages are by far the most desirable of the bunch. This one’s colors are jaw-dropping.

The Buyer acknowledges that delays in transferring titles including, due to delays at government Motor Vehicle departments, happen from time-to-time and, the Buyer will hold both Bonhams/Market and the Consignor harmless from any allegations of damages arising out of government delays.
