Background

Designed by Ian Callum, the beautiful Aston Martin DB7 was available as a coupé or convertible (or a ‘Volante’, as Aston calls them), and with a manual or an automatic gearbox.

In 1993, the new chairman of Ford Europe presented the finished car (which had yet to be named) to the general public at the Geneva Motor Show.

The reception from the press and buying public was overwhelmingly positive and the car was subsequently put into production as the DB7.

Built in the same factory as the Jaguar XJ220, the DB7 is the only ‘modern’ Aston Martin to utilise a steel monocoque body.

Initially offered with a straight-six engine, the range was later expanded to include the glorious six-litre V12 engine in the Vantage Volante that you are looking at here.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, [email protected].

VIN: SCFAB42301K401858.

This LHD auto 2001 Aston Martin DB7 V12 Vantage Volante has just 46,401 kms on the odometer and is, as far as we can tell, in very good overall condition.

The car starts and runs but, as we haven’t driven it more than a few metres, we can only assess it on its cosmetic condition.

It was bought by the vendor in 2020 and shipped from New York to his collection of static display cars.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, the car comes with no history or service records.

Exterior

The bodywork is very good and is free of any dinks, dents, creases or folds of any real significance.

So, too, is the glossy black paintwork, which has a shine and lustre to it that defy the car’s years.

The wheels look to be in decent order, although there are a few nicks here and there.

The lights, lenses, badging, exterior trim and fixtures and fittings are all broadly in good order.

The hood, which fits snugly and goes up and down as intended, has served as the resting place of choice for someone’s cat, if the many hairs on the fabric are to be believed.

Fortunately, the cat in question has opted not to use the hood as scratching post – it’s in good condition, if in need of some soap and water.

There’s a scratch on the driver’s side ‘A’ pillar, some paint chips on the edge of the boot lid, and some paint has rubbed away on the rear edge of the driver’s door.

There’s also a scratch on the bonnet, next to the passenger side headlamp.

There are a few scuffs and scratches on the rear wing on the passenger side, on the passenger door, and on the sill below it.

Beyond that, there are some stone chips around the front wheel arches, and the front valance has a couple of gouges into the plastic, plus the usual stone chips.

Interior

The interior is every bit as untroubled by use and the passage of time as its exterior counterpart.

The black leather upholstery is in first-class condition and has very little creasing or other signs of wear to show for its 21 years of service.

The door cards are also good, as is the headlining.

The rich wooden veneers on the dashboard, centre console, steering wheel and inserts look very good, aside from a few marks around the gear selector.

The carpets and mats are decent, although some of those that should be in the footwells are missing or are now in plastic bags for some reason unknown to us.

There are some cracks and a hole in the driver’s door pull.

The front, passenger side air bag cover is broken and hanging down.

The boot appears to be in reasonable condition.

We can’t make any claims about the full functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t run the car for more than a minute or so.

Mechanical

The clean, dry engine and engine bay look fine and the undersides of the car appear to have plenty of structural integrity.

History

This car comes with no history or service records.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification unless otherwise stated.

Summary

This looks to us to be an excellent, low-kilometres example of a very powerful, stylish and refined model from one of the world’s most prestigious sporting marques.

Provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and as good as the rest of it.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €25,000 - €35,000.
