Background
Produced from 1991 to 1997, the Volkswagen Golf VR6 arguably kicked off Europe's obsession with the mega hatch as it epitomised the ideal balance of performance with everyday usability. Replacing the 1990 Volkswagen Golf GTi G60, this front-wheel drive, 5-seat, compact hatchback is part of the Mk3 generation Golf, which came in 3 or 5 door variations. It also came with the option of a 5-speed manual gearbox, or a 4-speed automatic – this being an example of the latter. As far as fuel economy is concerned, this car should achieve around 30mpg, meaning a full tank should cover 350 miles before requiring a refill.
This cars are pretty rare, as today there are only around 850 Mk 3 VR6s on UK roads. Just over 500 of them are 'straight' VR6s, and just under 250 Highlines, which only came in black or Purple Violet Pearl (usually referred to as 'mulberry').
