“ Excellent Condition - Low Miles - Needs Recommission ”

We think this is a fine example of a hand-built Rolls-Royce Silver Spur III limousine and one that, thanks to its Japanese provenance and curation, has survived the passage of time with commendable fortitude and resilience.

This low-mileage example should have years of useful and satisfying life ahead of it - provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and as good as the rest of it.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €15,000 - €25,000.

Viewing is always encouraged, and this particular car is located in a bonded warehouse near Amsterdam. To arrange an appointment please use the Contact Seller button at the top of the listing. Feel free to ask any questions or make observations in the comments section below, or try our ‘Frequently Asked Questions’.

Background

The Silver Spur was a longer-wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit, the first model in Rolls-Royce’s SZ series, and was in production from 1981 to 1999.

Along with the other models in the SZ series, the Silver Spur was one of the last Crewe-built Rolls-Royces with truly British DNA running through it.

The next generations of the ‘The World’s Best Car’ would be built by BMW in a new facility at Goodwood, England.

It featured Rolls-Royce’s familiar four-door monocoque bodyshell, a smooth and powerful 6750cc V8 engine allied to four-speed automatic transmission, all-round independent suspension, adaptive ride control, power steering and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS.

It was the first Rolls-Royce to feature a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy mascot.

The Rolls-Royce Silver Spur III was manufactured between 1994 and 1996.

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this 1993 LHD auto Rolls-Royce Silver Spur III comes with no history or service records whatsoever.

We know from some stickers (and the car’s very good condition) that it was living in Japan. We would guess from previous experience of the vendor’s Rolls-Royce limousines that it was delivered new to Japan.

We also know that the car takes power, starts, runs and drives – although we haven’t driven it more than a few metres.

The odometer reads 34,710 miles.

As we haven’t driven the car any distance, our appraisal of it is entirely based on its cosmetic appearance.

Exterior

The panels, panel gaps and shut lines are consistent and even pretty much everywhere you look, although the side edges of the front bumper are not perfectly flush with the bodywork.

The grey/dark silver paintwork is also in fine condition and, as is often the case with Japanese import cars, corrosion is notable largely by its absence.

There’s a scratch near the boot lock, above the side indicator on the driver’s side and on the passenger-side rear door.

The driver’s door has a few small paint chips and there are some scuffs on the rear light cluster on the driver’s side.

The bottom of the rear bumper has a lot of residue on it from where something (we don’t know what) was previously glued in place.

There is what appears to be a flag pole sticking up alongside the front bumper and the boot lid is boasting an impressive radio/telecomms antenna of some description.

The wheels, lights, chrome work and badging are good all round.

Interior

The mushroom grey/brown leather upholstery is excellent in the front and, behind the screen divider, in the rear.

There’s barely any creasing in evidence, let alone other signs of wear and tear.

Even the Asprey clock is still in situ above the divider.

The door cards are good.

So, too, is the headlining, although the leather surround to the high-level brake light is coming away.

Mostly, the carpets and mats are good, aside from a threadbare section in the front passenger footwell.

The door cards are decent although, like the dashboard, the picnic tables and the TV/entertainment console, there are cracks to the lacquer in some places and bits of veneer split or missing in others.

The fridge concealed in the rear seat armrest can’t be opened as the mechanism is broken.

We can’t make any claims about the full functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t driven the car more than a metre or two.

Mechanical

The tidy, dry engine and engine bay look very clean and everything appears to be in its right and proper place.

The undersides of the car seem to have plenty of structural integrity from what we can see.

History

Unless otherwise stated, this car comes with no paperwork beyond whatever photocopied records are shown in the gallery.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.
