“ Rare Limo - Recommission Required ”

We think this is a good example of a lightly used Rolls-Royce that’s spent most of its life either in a cool, dry garage or warming itself in balmy Florida sunshine - provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and are as good as the rest of it.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €18,000 - €26,000.

Viewing is always encouraged, and this particular car is located in a bonded warehouse near Amsterdam. To arrange an appointment please use the Contact Seller button at the top of the listing. Feel free to ask any questions or make observations in the comments section below, or try our ‘Frequently Asked Questions’.

Background

The Silver Spur was a longer-wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit, the first model in Rolls-Royce’s SZ series, and was in production from 1981 to 1999.

Along with the other models in the SZ series, the Silver Spur was one of the last Crewe-built Rolls-Royces with truly British DNA running through it.

The next generations of the ‘The World’s Best Car’ would be built by BMW in a new facility at Goodwood, England.

It featured Rolls-Royce’s familiar four-door monocoque bodyshell, a smooth and powerful 6750cc V8 engine allied to four-speed automatic transmission, all-round independent suspension, adaptive ride control, power steering and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS.

It was the first Rolls-Royce to feature a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy mascot.

The Rolls-Royce Silver Spur III was manufactured between 1994 and 1996

Overview

This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country.

The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase.

This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork.

Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere.

It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received.

All storage charges (€30 + local VAT per day commencing from the sixth day following the auction end) must be paid in full prior to the vehicle’s collection or onward transportation. Collection and viewings are strictly by appointment only.

Please send an email to the storage centre to ensure vehicle(s) are ready at time of collection. Photographic ID will be required at time of collection. If a third party is collecting for you, then written authorisation is required in advance from you and photographic ID of the third party is required at the time of collection.

CARS Europe BV will contact you after the balance payment is received to confirm onward transport requirements. For enquiries about import tax and shipping contact Madam Joanna Herlihy, +31 (0) 252 682 526, +44 7483 433912, joanna@carseurope.net.

In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this 1995 LHD auto Rolls-Royce Silver Spur III Mulliner Park Ward Limousine does not come with any history or provenance beyond whatever photocopies are shown in the documents section.

We haven’t started or driven the car, so our appraisal is based entirely on its cosmetic appearance.

We believe it entered the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in 2013.

We also believe, from the evidence of a service book containing one stamp dated 1998 (at which time the car had covered 7,963 miles) and a letter regarding parking protocols, that it was living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, between, and possibly before and after, 1998 and 2006.

Today, the car’s odometer reads 44,524 miles.

Exterior

This is a car that’s undeniably epic in looks, proportions and presence.

We can report that the bodywork is really very good all round, with the panels, panel gaps and shut lines consistent and even pretty much everywhere you look.

There are no dents or creases of any real significance, and even minor dinks, scuffs and nicks are unusually scarce given the car’s age and mileage.

The grey metallic paintwork is still impressive in terms of shine and lustre.

The lights and lenses are also commendable, as are the badging, trim and other exterior fixtures and fittings.

The chrome and wheels are good, too.

There are some scuffs and scratches in various places along the flanks of the car on the driver’s side.

The rear wing on the passenger side has a few stone chips to show for its years of service in the Florida sunshine, and there are some scuffs on the corner of the rear passenger-side wing.

There are some scuffs on the plastic section of the rear bumper and what looks like the residue of some adhesive tape on the chrome and plastic sections of the front bumper.

The rubber trim has detached itself from the rear screen.

There’s also a crack in the rear screen and some bubbling in the bodywork beneath it.

The rear bumper has a couple of scuffs and some paint chips to show for its years of service.

The rear doors currently open from the outside, but not the inside.

Interior

The interior is mostly as impressive as its exterior counterpart, although the carpets and mats have been visited by some particularly voracious and committed moths and their offspring.

The grey leather upholstery is really very good front and back, and the only obvious signs of wear or use are a few creases and cracks on the driver’s seat bolster and some nicks to the leather higher up on the shoulder of the backrest on the same side.

The folding mechanisms on the rear picnic tables have come apart and no longer function as intended, and the end section is missing from the cruise control stalk on the steering column.

The sliding lid on the central front armrest storage compartment has decided to retire from sliding.

The door cards, headlining and wood veneers are good throughout, as is the boot.

We can’t make any claims about the full functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t started or driven the car.

Mechanical

The tidy, dry engine and engine bay look really very clean and proper, suggesting that this car has been well looked-after throughout the course of its life.

The undersides of the car appear to have plenty of structural integrity from what we can see.

History

Unless otherwise stated, this car comes with no history or service records beyond whatever photocopied records are shown in the gallery.

No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification.

It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this.
