“ Low Mileage Rosso Beauty ”

It was bought new from JCT600 Maserati and has been serviced by them continuously up to the present day.

Background

The Maserati GranTurismo, and its convertible cousin the GranCabrio, entered production in 2007.

The GranTurismo was famously developed in just nine months, a record that remains unbeaten to this day. The reason for this furious pace was that Ferrari kept the designs for the planned next Maserati coupé for themselves when the Fiat Chrysler Group took over, eventually morphing those designs into the Ferrari California. So, with their plans nicked from under their noses, Maserati had to start again and work fast.

The result was no rushed bodge job. There’s not the faintest hint of compromise or broken promises with a GranTurismo.

Far from it.

As Auto Express said in their January 2008 review, “The GranTurismo is the best car Maserati has built for at least 25 years”.

And it’s really very hard to argue with that appraisal.

The gearbox is either a six-speed ZF automatic with three modes – Normal, Sport and ICE – plus a manual mode in the standard GranTurismo and GranCabrio, or an automated six-speed manual in the 4.7-litre, 434bhp GranTurismo S.

Performance is brisk, with the GranTurismo hitting 62mph in 5.2 seconds on its way to a top speed of 177mph.

In 2008 the GranTurismo S arrived, with a new 4.7-litre engine capable of hitting 62mph in 4.9 seconds on the way to a top speed of 183mph. The GranTurismo S was the fastest Maserati ever built at the time.

The GranTurismo Sport, introduced in 2012, replaced the GranTurismo S and featured a revised 4.7-litre engine rated at 450bhp.

We have a very fine example of the GranTurismo Sport here at our HQ today.

Overview

This car comes to us courtesy of a vendor who has owned it since 2013, the car having briefly belonged to his wife previously.

So, it has only ever had one home.

It has also been used sparingly over the years, hence the exceptionally low odometer reading of just 24,648 miles.

It was bought new from JCT600 Maserati and has been serviced by them continuously up to the present day.

The vendor is only selling now because he’s recently had knee replacement surgery and is finding ingress and egress to and from the car rather more challenging than he used to.

We have driven it and can attest to its rare and intoxicating combination of balance, poise and performance.

It presses on with grin-inducing enthusiasm and makes a fabulous noise, particularly in Sport mode.

It’s a proper, thoroughbred GT car.

It has recently had the wheels refurbished, new discs and pads fitted at the front, and had some corrosion issues with the rear brakes rectified.

The car has brand new matching Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.

It has a fresh MOT valid until January 2025.

Exterior

The bodywork is excellent and is largely uncompromised by any dinks, dents, creases or folds that we can see.

The exception to this rule is on the driver’s door, where there is a crease on the edge of the door just back from the handle, and there’s a slight dink a few inches below it.

The red paintwork is really very good in most places, save for a few stone chips on the bonnet, the top of the n/s/f wing, the n/s/r wing, and the passenger door.

There are also a few spots where the lacquer is missing on the strip running along the nearside gutter on the roof.

The refurbished wheels look as good as you’d expect them too and the new tyres are, of course, beyond reproach.

The lights, lenses, badging and other exterior fixtures and fittings are all in first-class condition.

Interior

The good news continues uninterrupted on the inside, where almost everything is in very good condition and is far more a reflection of the car’s low mileage and careful curation than its age.

The black leather upholstery with red stitching has yet to earn any meaningful creases let alone any ingrained patina.

The seats, front and back, are comfortable, supportive and functional.

We noticed that the cover for the forward/backward control is missing from the side of the driver’s seat (but the mechanism still works perfectly well).

The door cards, carpets and mats are following the same script in terms of preservation and condition, as is the pretty much spotless boot.

The headlining is good, as are the dashboard, centre console, steering wheel, gear selector, instruments and dials.

We didn’t tweak every lever, press every knob or flick every switch, but those we did tweak, press and flick did as they were told without complaining.

As far as the vendor is aware, everything works as it should.

Mechanical

The engine bay looks clean and dry (not that you can see much of it because of various plastic shrouds and covers) and everything seems to be in its right and proper place.

The undersides of the car appear to have plenty of structural integrity, although there are one or two patches of rust to be seen here and there.

History

This car comes with plenty of bills, receipts and invoices.

It also has a service book with a complete history of stamps from JCT600.

The car comes with a recent, clear HPI check and a full set of manuals, handbooks and guides.

Summary

At its launch, the press and public alike were gushing in their enthusiasm and praise for the GranTurismo.

This version - the 4.7-litre Sport - is even better than those earlier iterations and makes for a truly thrilling drive.

One or two cosmetic issues aside, we think you’ll struggle to find an example with fewer owners, lower miles and a better service history than this one.

We’re confident to offer this very fine car for auction with an estimate of £28,000 - £34,000.
