Background
With 105bhp and 130ft.lb of torque at its disposal courtesy of its 117cu.in Milwaukee-Eight liquid-cooled engine (which is 1,917cc if you’re a lily-livered European metrosexual), the Harley-Davidson Street Glide is a thoroughly modern iteration of one of the American firm’s iconic motorbikes.
Not least because there’s now an LED headlamp in the batwing fairing, plus a reshaped fuel tank, seat, and luggage; put it side-by-side with the outgoing model and the differences are striking.
The changes also give it even greater presence; the seat height might be an accessible 28.1 freedom units above the ground, but it weighs north of 800lbs/367kgs, so no-one is going to mistake you for a Deliveroo rider.
It’s got a sat-nav fitted too, plus Bluetooth and CarPlay connectivity, a USB-C charger, a radio, speakers, and even a pop-out drawer: This thing is more like a two-wheeled SUV than a motorcycle.
And therein lies the appeal; if you fancy joining the Iron Butt Association then this would make a fine steed – and for city use they’re wieldier than you might think, with YouTube having thousands of videos showing riders of all ages and genders throwing them around impossibly narrow courses and impossibly high speeds.
Even MCN the bastion of British motorcycle writing wrote of it: “it’s perfectly controllable, turning accurately [and] maintaining suspension control” thanks to its 49mm forks, pre-load adjustable Showa rear suspension, and the 180/55x18 rear tyre, while braking is taken care of by a pair of beefy 11.8-inch, four-piston Brembo brakes at the front and a slightly more modest single 9.4-inch jobbie at the rear.
