“ An epic American dream, effectively brand-new. ”

This is our first motorcycle that comes with A/C!

Background

With 105bhp and 130ft.lb of torque at its disposal courtesy of its 117cu.in Milwaukee-Eight liquid-cooled engine (which is 1,917cc if you’re a lily-livered European metrosexual), the Harley-Davidson Street Glide is a thoroughly modern iteration of one of the American firm’s iconic motorbikes.

Not least because there’s now an LED headlamp in the batwing fairing, plus a reshaped fuel tank, seat, and luggage; put it side-by-side with the outgoing model and the differences are striking.

The changes also give it even greater presence; the seat height might be an accessible 28.1 freedom units above the ground, but it weighs north of 800lbs/367kgs, so no-one is going to mistake you for a Deliveroo rider.

It’s got a sat-nav fitted too, plus Bluetooth and CarPlay connectivity, a USB-C charger, a radio, speakers, and even a pop-out drawer: This thing is more like a two-wheeled SUV than a motorcycle.

And therein lies the appeal; if you fancy joining the Iron Butt Association then this would make a fine steed – and for city use they’re wieldier than you might think, with YouTube having thousands of videos showing riders of all ages and genders throwing them around impossibly narrow courses and impossibly high speeds.

Even MCN the bastion of British motorcycle writing wrote of it: “it’s perfectly controllable, turning accurately [and] maintaining suspension control” thanks to its 49mm forks, pre-load adjustable Showa rear suspension, and the 180/55x18 rear tyre, while braking is taken care of by a pair of beefy 11.8-inch, four-piston Brembo brakes at the front and a slightly more modest single 9.4-inch jobbie at the rear.

Overview

Finished in the unusual (and unusually attractive) colour of Alpine Green, ‘RE24 ZPL’ is a 2024 Harley-Davidson Street Glide that is still showing fewer than a thousand miles on the odometer.

The seller bought it 18 months ago but finds that he isn’t using it as much as he thought he would as he’s got other motorbikes in his collection vying for attention.

Bad news for him, perhaps, but good news if you’re in the market for one as it is essentially a new example, offering all of the advantages of buying new but at a hefty discount.

Exterior

It’s a helluva thing, isn’t it? And, like Frank Bullitt’s Mustang, we think the metallic green hue suits it even better than some of the more obvious colours; the Street Glide is going to draw an awful lot of attention anyway, but the Alpine Green finish turns an already cool ‘bike into something that could find a place in the Top Gear fridge – assuming, that is, that you could fit it in there in the first place…

Sleek and surprisingly elegant, the mirrors are fared in, the front indicators are subtle strips, and the modest smoked windscreen’s adjustability is said to make it highly effective, even for tall riders.

The contrast-cut, cast-aluminium wheels, which are 19-inches at the front and 18 at the rear, are flawless and still swathed in their factory-fitted rubber, a Dunlop 130/60R19 on the front and a 180/55x18 on the rear.

The fuel tank holds almost five gallons – and that’s the proper full-sized UK-gallon, not your half-assed US version that’s around 20% smaller – giving the H-D a range of around 250 miles from a full tank thanks to an average consumption of around 50mpg.

As for its condition, feast your eyes on the photos and we don’t think you’ll find anything to complain about no matter how hard you squint thanks to unsullied coachwork, highly polished chrome, unmarked light lenses, and bright badging.

That said, there is a little bit of mud on the gearlever and footrest, for which we will have our photographer taken outside and shot.

Interior

The one-piece black saddle is an elegant shape, and its design includes beautifully neat contrast stitching. Free of even the lightest of creases, much less anything more significant, it is as comfortable and attractive now as when it was first fitted.

The dashboard – and it really is a dashboard – offers all the information you could ever need and is easy to assimilate thanks to its vast 12.2”/312mm TFT display.

As we mentioned earlier, it’s fitted with a sat-nav system, a radio, and even CarPlay, all of which connect straight to your helmet via Bluetooth should you not want to use the built-in speakers.

Different riding modes are available at the touch of a button, plus tyre pressure monitoring and an ambient thermometer.

The panniers offer a combined 69 litres of storage.

Mechanical

Of that mighty engine, MCN wrote: “it’s no longer an apology for a large capacity engine: it lays down grunt, sticking a smile on your face as the TFT dash whips up bigger numbers on the speedo.”

Hydraulic valves mean you’ll never need to adjust your tappets either, while oil and filter changes are at 5,000-mile intervals. It’s belt-driven too, so there is no chain to worry about; all-in-all, we think the Street Glide would be an easy machine to live with.

As you can see, it starts, idles, and revs as it should while making all the right noises – but that’s not a surprise given its mileage, is it?

History

The recent Vehicle History Check is clear, and the history file contains the Harley folder and book pack in addition to a pair of sunglasses and a couple of Harley Owners’ Group patches.

Summary

“In dynamic terms, the Street suits British/European riders better: greater ground clearance, better handling in the fiddly stuff as well as having your hands tucked away when it’s cold or wet.”

That was MCN again, doubling down in its admiration for a ‘bike many of us might be tempted to dismiss.

New, the Street Glide would set you back almost £27,000 even before you start ticking any boxes for options, which makes our guide price of between £18,000 and £23,000 look like spectacular value given this one is already here in the UK and ready to be ridden away.

Oh, and your annual road tax is just £121 a year and it is ULEZ compliant.
