Background

In 1965, Cadillac designated its Eldorado, Sixty Special and Series 75 models as part of an exclusive Fleetwood ‘sub-series’.

For 1987, Cadillac revised the names of its premium sedan models. To avoid confusion with the smaller front-wheel drive Fleetwood, which was introduced in 1985, the D-body Fleetwood Brougham was renamed as the Cadillac Brougham, with upmarket options including the d’Elegance variant.

The Brougham was offered until 1993, when the D-body Cadillac was restyled and rebranded as the Cadillac Fleetwood. The Brougham name survived, but only as a trim option.

Overview

This motor car is being sold as part of an overseas collection. It has been imported under the Bonhams temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to the lower rate 5% import tax if the car is to remain in the UK & purchased by a private individual. The 5% is calculated on the final selling price. For example, if the car sells for £5,000, then £250 is added, making the total amount payable of £5,250. A company buying the car will pay duty + VAT as well as VAT on the hammer.

The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, and proof that HMRC fees are paid. If the car is subsequently exported abroad within 30 days then these fees are refundable.

Lastly, there will be a nominal administration fee of £250 for processing the NOVA application, and payable direct to the shipping company. A completed and processed NOVA will provide you formal proof that all duties & taxes are paid in UK and thus allow you to register the vehicle with the DVLA

In common with the majority of cars in this collection, this vehicle has been on static display for a number of years and there is no history available beyond that displayed in our photography section.

We have not started or driven the car so cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’.

It is available for view and inspection at our HQ near Abingdon and we will be delighted to show the car to you and/or your appointed engineer.

This 1990 model year Cadillac Brougham d’Elegance comes with the optional, larger 5.7 litre V8.

It has the VIN number 1G6DW5477LR717583.

The car is, in virtually every respect, showroom fresh.

It may be 32 years’ old but it looks – outside, inside and underneath – as if it rolled off the production line yesterday.

We have no history or service record for this car.

We know that it was delivered new to its owners in Virginia, USA, on 21st December 1989.

We know that it entered the vendor’s collection of static display vehicles in September 2020.

We know nothing of the car’s owners or whereabouts during the intervening years.

We do know that the odometer reads 12,244 miles.

As with the other cars in the vendor’s collection, we haven’t tried to start or drive it and, consequently, our opinions are confined to the car’s cosmetic condition.

That said, we have connected it to a battery (in order to read the mileage), and can confirm that the electrics work and that all displays are clear and legible.

Exterior

Aside from a few scratches on the passenger side of the windscreen and one or two tiny stone chips at the front of the bonnet, we can’t find anything to fault on the bodywork.

The panels - which are mostly the size of a barn door - are untroubled by any scuffs, scratches, dinks, creases, folds, warps or dents of note. The protective plastic film is still in place over the front of the bonnet and wing sections.

The panel gaps and shut-lines are consistent and even.

The doors slam home with weight and accuracy.

The chrome, including the bumpers and grille, is in excellent condition, as is the vinyl roof.

The acres of burgundy paint have an admirable degree of lustre and shine.

The lights, badging, trim and wheels are all good.

Interior

The interior is equally extraordinary.

Everything is in what appears to be showroom condition.

The soft, quilted, burgundy leather upholstery is free of creases and the seats, front and rear, are comfortable, supportive and functional.

The door cards, carpets, mats and headlining are in fine fettle.

Everything on around the dashboard, including the steering wheel, wood veneers and all the chrome fixtures, seems to be in top condition. The wood veneers on the door cards are equally impressive.

We can’t make any claims about the functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t driven the car and seen it in action.

The cavernous boot appears pristine and is home to a spare wheel.

Lifting up the carpets here or elsewhere in the car reveals…nothing to worry about whatsoever.

Mechanical

From what we can see, the undersides are strong, sound and untroubled by anything that looks as if it might threaten the structural integrity of the vehicle.

The engine and engine bay appear to be clean and dry and, as far as we can tell, everything is in its right and proper place.

History

The car comes with no history, no service records and neither an MoT certificate nor a V5.

If you’d like to inspect the car prior to placing a bid – something we would encourage – then please use the Contact Seller button to arrange an appointment.

Summary

It’s hard to imagine how this car could be any better.

We have to keep reminding ourselves that it’s a 1990 model, not something that left the showroom last week.

Provided, of course, that the car’s engine and mechanicals prove to be in good working order, we’re confident that the next owner will have brought themselves a Cadillac Brougham d’Elegance that is, to all intents and purposes, as good as new.

We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of £5,000 - £10,000, plus Bonhams bond payment and £250 NOVA fee.

Viewing is always encouraged, within government guidelines of course. The car is located at our Abingdon headquarters; we are open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and to arrange an appointment please use the ‘Contact Seller’ button at the top of the listing to make an appointment.
